[YEP-DC] Summer Education Group Leader Opening at Martha's Table

Timothy Jones, Director of Healthy Connections at Martha's Table, is facilitating a summer youth employment program for twenty 14-15 year olds from June 29th through August 7th.  He is hiring a Group Leader who will work between Monday, June 22nd and Wednesday, August 12th.  This timing will allow training to take place the week before the program starts, and wrap up to take place when it's complete.  


The candidate must have experience working with teenagers and implementing workshop activities in an out of school time setting.  Program days and hours are from Monday to Friday, 8:15 am to 1:30 pm.  The hourly salary will be based on experience, but will range between $14 and $15. Position Title: Education Group Leader 

FLSA Status: Non Exempt                                      

Reports To: Director of Healthy Connections

 

Position Summary:  This position reports directly to the Director of Healthy Connections, and as such under direction, is responsible for providing center-based services including, reviewing, developing and implementing daily/weekly lesson plans, and other services related to providing quality services to middle and high school students.  The Education Group Leader will serve as the Coordinator of the Summer Youth Employment Program for 20 14-15 year old youths and will be responsible for reviewing lesson plans, staff development and student assessments.  The Education Group Leader will work alongside the Director in the overall management of the staff and program.  The Education Group Leader will ensure that staff is fulfilling daily and weekly responsibilities as assigned.   The Education Group Leader will assist the Director by providing feedback on staff evaluations and the assigning of staff tasks. The Education Group Leader will manage the daily operations the summer youth employment program in the absence of the Director.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  1. Assist the Director and other leadership personnel in the development, implementation and assessment of the core program curriculum.

2.   Manage the systems to ensure staff fulfills daily and weekly tasks associated with the implementation of the program and report overall progress information to the Director

 

3.   Coordinate with Learning Evaluation and Research Manager to implement student assessment tools and the corresponding capturing and reporting of data.

 

4.  Leading workshop instruction for a classroom of students as needed.

 

5.   Ensuring the safety of groups of school-age students

 

6.   Supporting students with individual needs

 

7.   Completing administrative tasks relating to the overall program

 

8. Communicating with parents and other stakeholders as needed


9. Building strong relationships with a youth development approach with school aged students

 

10. Supporting with meals, transportation, and student supervision to ensure a smooth program

 

11. Plan and implement experiential learning activities such as field trips

 

12. Responsible for performing other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Experience:

(a)  A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in education or child and youth development  (preferred majors) with a minimum of (3) years' experience in an after school setting with program development and management responsibilities 

(b)  An associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in education or child and youth development with a minimum of (5) years' experience in an after school setting with program development and management responsibilities

 

Licensure/Clearances/Certifications: Meet the licensing requirements for pertaining to CPR, first aid and universal precaution requirements, including drug and background checks/clearances.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit( including sitting on the floor or in small chairs);bend or stoop to child level,  use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel; talk or hear; taste or smell.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Requires the ability to go outdoors in all kinds of weather.
