[YEP-DC] Job Posting: International High School at Langley Park

Prince George's County Public Schools is partnering with CASA de Maryland and the Internationals Network for Public Schools to open two new and innovative high schools that will focus on serving English Language Learners (ELL), many of which are immigrants and hail from more than 150 countries. The schools are supported in part by a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York's Opportunity By Design initiative.  The schools will each open with a cohort of 100 ninth graders in August 2015 and will expand by 100 students annually until they reach full capacity with 400 students at each school.


We are now seeking enthusiastic founding teachers to support the schools' efforts to close the ELL achievement gap in Prince George's County. Mastery-based/competency-based learning will be at the heart of the school design and will incorporate personalized learning opportunities and project based instruction. We are currently recruiting for the following teaching positions:


  • 1 Math

  • 1 Art


All candidates will be assessed according to their strength in the following competencies:


  • Is committed to working with a non-traditional school schedule and participates in the review of operational performance goals and results

  • Understands that positive youth development is the shared responsibility of a student's family, peers, the community, and all school staff members

  • Is able to collaborate in professional teams while giving and receiving critical feedback and support around professional growth

  • Empowers and supports students through a consistent and transparent process of communicating student progress

  • Continuously improves their practice through the use of performance data

  • Is able to work with a diverse group of students and personalize their learning to meet student needs

  • Prioritizes mastery of rigorous standards aligned to college and career readiness for ELLs

  • Supports scholars in language development by including both content and language objectives in daily instruction

  • Identifies, articulates and approaches a challenge with the intent of growth


Please note that in this model all teachers will be 12 month employees. Paid leave time will follow all PGCEA contract specifications for 12-month employees. All teachers are expected to have a start date of July 6th.
