[YEP-DC] FREE SUMMER & AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM - Incoming 6th Graders

Good Morning,

Higher Achievement is partnering with Cesar Chavez-Parkside Middle school to provide summer and afterschool academic enrichment opportunities for a select group of incoming 6th graders.
  • 75% of students that participate in our program improve their grade point average (GPA) by at least one letter grade.

  • 96% graduate from high school on time--twice the rate of their peers.

  • 75% graduate from college--four times the rate of their peers

HOW WE DO IT

Our year-round program, which is grounded in research, combines high expectations with high supports, and provides demanding academic work, mentoring, skill-building, and personal encouragement in service of helping each scholar maximize their social, emotional and intellectual capacities.
Summer Academy:

  • During the summer (June 29th and lasting through August 7th),  our summer academy--which runs from 8:00am-4:00pm on Monday through Friday--prepares scholars for the next school year by exposing them to the Math, Science, Social Studies, and Literature that they will face in 6th grade. We also provide FUN ELECTIVES (dance, creative writing, spoken word poetry, film making etc.) and WEEKLY FIELD TRIPS (every Friday in the summer) that are meant to be FUN and INTELLECTUALLY STIMULATING. At the end of the summer program, we also take all of our scholars on a COLLEGE TRIP as a way to get them thinking about college and their future.

Afterschool Academy:

  • During the school year, our achievement centers operate three days a week from 3:30pm until 7:30pmEach afternoon begins with homework help (facilitated by college educated paid staff), followed by leadership building and academic mentoring.

  • Every scholar in our program is matched with three mentors who provide mentoring and support in core subject areas.

Our program is FREE of charge to all families. Because we don't have enough slots to take on all families that are interested, admission to Higher Achievement is based on a lottery. Every family that applies has an equal chance of getting accepted. We also require an interview with the parent and scholar as part of our admission process.

If this is an opportunity that interests you and scholarGain a head start on our enrollment process today by applying online! Complete both our enrollment form and supplemental application, and call us to schedule your best availability for an admissions interview. Email: hbangura@higherachievement.org; Phone: 202-321-0054  or mevans@higherachievement.org Phone: 917-373-2773
