Math and Science Clinical Faculty Job Position
Urban Teacher Center (UTC) is an innovative, four-year teacher preparation program that includes a one-year residency. As part of the teacher preparation, UTC partners with Lesley University (Cambridge, MA) for the conferral of a Master's of Education degree. UTC is currently operating two
(2) sites in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, MD. UTC trains, supports, and places teachers in urban, public schools. The Baltimore city and District of Columbia sites are currently seeking clinical faculty- for the 2015 spring and summer semesters- who possess the following grade and content experience:
- PreK-2 or K-5 mathematics,
- 6-12 mathematics,
- Elementary Science, or
- Middle Grades Science
UTC clinical faculty are a critical lever for our program's success. Their practice-based responsibilities of delivering graduate-level coursework and providing real-time coaching, ensure that our UTC program participants enter their teaching careers as highly skilled and effective practitioners. Our clinical faculty work 30 to 40 hours per week to train teachers in the best, research and evidence-based methods, so that each teacher will have the potential to positively influence the lives of the children we serve. Our salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities:
Clinical faculty support our residency model of teacher preparation by ensuring that participants are well versed in content, pedagogy, and pedagogical content knowledge. Responsibilities include the following:
- Plan and deliver graduate-level coursework for a group of 30 participants in accordance with the approved syllabi for the relevant program of study (Secondary Math or Elementary Education). For some instructors, this may also involve coordination with any assigned Graduate Assistants;
- Effectively manage all aspects of communication with course participants, provide ongoing feedback on assignments, and consistently maintain interim and final grades in accordance with course timelines and university submission dates;
- Provide program participants with high quality coaching and professional development support in alignment with the UTC Teacher Practice Rubric;
- Conduct classroom observations and deliver effective feedback to a caseload of program participants who are placed in UTC partner schools;
- Maintain appropriate data on caseload of participants and collaborate with site team to ensure that program participants are meeting required performance metrics;
- Contribute to a professional community of clinical faculty by actively engaging in mentoring, supporting curriculum development or delivery work, sharing best practices, and otherwise collaborating with your UTC and Lesley University peers.
Qualifications:
A graduate degree (M.S., M.A. or higher) related to relevant content and/or education; experience in urban public education as a teacher, instructional coach, and/or Content Specialist; extensive knowledge of the content and pedagogical content knowledge in the relevant discipline; skills in group facilitation and mentoring; experience with problem-solving programs/ internship programs. - level of experience with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematical Practice, the Standards for Mathematical Content, and the Next Generation Science Standards

- educational background (i.e., degrees, publications)
- information on teacher certification status
- three references (with contact information)
Screening process:
Interview with UTC team, including:
- Phone, in-person, or remote interviews with site team
- Performance tasks: Development of instructor notes and coaching exercise
- Reference check and fingerprint screen
- Lesley University interview and approval
