[YEP-DC] Paid Spring 2015 Ed Policy Internships

New America's Education Policy Program is seeking part-time, paid interns for spring 2015. Interns will work in learning technologies policyeducation policy, or graphic design and social media. Visit the links to apply; all three listings are pasted below. Thanks!


Intern- Learning Technologies Policy

Learning Technologies Policy Intern

New America's Education Policy Program seeks applicants who have a strong interest in education and learning technologies policy for a paid Spring 2015 internship. The intern will primarily assist the program's Learning Technologies Project with research, data, and policy analysis for issue briefs and policy reports. Interns must be self-starters who are excited to work both independently and as part of a team on a variety of education-related research projects.

New America's Education Policy Program is a think-tank industry leader in PreK-12, higher education, and the workforce. In addition to conducting research and analysis in these areas, interns will have the opportunity to publish their own blog posts and other work, attend events on behalf of New America, and gain exposure to some of the brightest and most ambitious thinkers in the field. They will also have the opportunity to attend in-house events, professional development, and off-the-record policy lunches with fellows and staff from other New America policy programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Work approx. 15-20 hours a week in our downtown D.C. office
  • Conduct research and analysis on education technology policy issues
  • Write for New America's education blog (EdCentral.org)
  • Assist with planning and staffing New America Education Policy Program events
  • Attend events and Congressional hearings on behalf of the education program
  • Minimal administrative work
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of education policy. Because of the content knowledge necessary for this position, a graduate student or experienced undergraduate student is preferred
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative research abilities
  • Excellent writing and communications skills
  • Passion for education and equity issues
  • Intellectual curiosity, motivation, and a desire to learn on-the-job

  • Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of education policy generally and higher education specifically. Because of the content knowledge necessary for this position, a graduate student or experienced undergraduate student is preferred
  • Excellent writing and communications skills
  • Passion for education and equity issues
  • Intellectual curiosity, motivation, and a desire to learn on-the-job
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative research abilities. Minimal understanding of statistical analysis software (Stata preferred) required; strong understanding preferred.

Education Graphic Design and Social Media Intern

New America's Education Policy Program seeks applicants who have a strong interest in graphic and print design, social media, and education policy for a paid Spring 2015 internship. The successful candidate will produce written and graphics material that helps to communicate the program's policy ideas to key audiences. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, has excellent writing and verbal skills, and has demonstrated experience producing creative graphics material. Any prior expertise in designing infographics, data visualizations, or other material that may assist in communicating complex policy ideas would be helpful.

Responsibilities:
  • Work 2-3 days a week in our downtown D.C. office.
  • Create engaging written and graphics content for social media platforms, policy papers, and other materials associated with the program's research.
  • Prepare statistics on the program's weekly reach in traditional and online media.
  • Help to produce a weekly education e-newsletter.
  • Identify media opportunities in the day's print and online media, and assist with the compilation of communications plans ahead of the release of major policy reports.
  • Minimal administrative work.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Experience in graphics or print design software (e.g. InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop).
  • Familiarity with social media tools like Hootsuite or Tweetdeck would be beneficial.
  • Intellectual curiosity, motivation, and a desire to learn on-the-job. Demonstrated interest in education policy issues is preferred.
