[YEP-DC] COLLEGE BOUND NEEDS YOU TO HELP CHANGE A STUDENT'S LIFE!

College Bound Needs Partners for its Academic Mentoring Program for 8th-12th grade students in Public & Charter schools across D.C.

WHO:

Since 1991, College Bound has been making college aspirations a reality for DC-area students. Over the past 3 years, 100% of College Bound students have not only graduated from High School (DC Average is 59%), but have enrolled in college. Through our Virtual Mentoring Program, our students first-year college retention rate (87%) exceeds the national average (77%). Our second and third year retention rates have been a perfect 100%. These bright futures for our students weren't cultivated overnight, and weren't shaped without a lot of helping hands. From 8th grade, students can join our 8th grade mentoring model where they will work in groups led by our collegiate volunteers. As soon as our students are in high school, they are paired with mentors as they begin our one-on-one mentoring program. During the weekly 2-hour site meetings, students tap into the academic, social, and cultural knowledge bases of their mentors to help make college success a reality.

WHAT:

We need partners to work with 8th-12th grade students for our Academic Mentoring Program. Partners are needed to mentor students during the weekly site meetings. Partners guide students to build their academic, social and cultural knowledge base. They can provide homework help. But most importantly they provide support to students in their journey to high school and college completion.

WHEN & WHERE
Academic Mentoring Program volunteers are asked to commit to mentor a students at one of  our Academic sites, which meets once a week for 2 hours. Current open sites and meeting times are listed below:

*Wednesdays: Chavez Public Charter School-Capitol Hill Campus; or BET Networks; 5:30PM-7:30PM
*Thursdays: American Institute of Research; 5:30PM-7:30PM or  Beacon House; 6:00PM-8:00PM
*One monthly event outside of site with student

Your support, your experience, and your knowledge are invaluable to helping support our students journey to a college degree. College Bound has had record enrollment this year as more and more students are discovering the importance of a college education. With the help of people like you, College Bound can expand their services to meet the growing demand of students with college aspirations.
