[YEP-DC] Job Opportunity with Teach Plus: Coordinator, C2 Initiative

Teach Plus (www.teachplus.org) has an immediate opening for a Coordinator of the C2 Initiative in Washington, DC. See below for more details.

Overview of Teach Plus

Mission. The mission of Teach Plus is to improve the achievement of urban children by ensuring that a greater proportion of students have access to excellent, experienced teachers. Half of new teachers leave urban classrooms within three years, just as they are beginning to have the strongest impact on student learning. We give effective teachers a reason to stay.

Programs. Teach Plus runs five programs designed to place teacher leaders at the center of reform. These programs include: the Teaching Policy Fellows, Teach Plus/NEA Fellows, the T+ Network, T3: Turnaround Teacher Teams, and C2: the Core Collaborative. Our programs focus on demonstrably effective teachers in the second stage of their careers (in most cases, years 3 through 10) who want to continue classroom teaching, while also expanding their impact as leaders in their schools and in state and district policy. In our first two years of operation, we grew from sixteen founding teachers to a movement of 3,500 reform-minded teachers in six cities. We currently operate in Boston, Chicago, Indianapolis, Memphis, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C.

Overview of the C2 Initiative

The implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) represents a significant instructional shift for teachers and students alike. We at Teach Plus have heard loud and clear from teachers in our districts that this requires opportunities for meaningful continuous professional learning that reaches across schools and is led by teachers themselves. The C2 initiative is a ground-breaking effort rooted in Teach Plus' popular teacher-led Common Core conferences. C2 is a teacher-led professional learning series through which teachers from a particular city come together to collaboratively learn from each other and selected experts about the Common Core (including implementation challenges and solutions, instructional strategies, practices, and materials).

Teach Plus recruits, develops, and supports effective, experienced teachers who have effectively implemented Common Core standards (Teacher Facilitators), to lead sustained and collaborative professional learning for colleagues around the Common Core. Teacher Facilitators are selected through a rigorous selection process, to design and lead weekly sessions over a semester or school year.

The C2 Initiative launched in Boston and Washington, D.C. in the fall of 2013. We currently work with Teacher Facilitators and teachers in public schools in Boston, Washington, D.C., and Memphis.
