[YEP-DC] Call for FY15 ACE Diversion Reviewers

The Trust Seeks Grant Reviewers for the FY15 DC Alternatives to the Court Experience Diversion Program

The Trust is seeking individuals to review proposals for the FY15 District of Columbia (DC) Alternatives to the Court Experience (ACE) Diversion Program Funding Competition. This is an excellent opportunity to network with colleagues in the fields of youth development and juvenile justice, learn more about the funding process, identify innovative diversion initiatives, and contribute your knowledge and experience to helping the Trust select high-quality youth programs throughout the District of Columbia.

The purpose of the ACE Diversion program is to provide youth with the skills, resources, supports, and opportunities necessary to not re-offend, not enter the court system, make better/positive decisions, and strengthen their connection to their families and communities. The ACE Diversion Program is a partnership between the DC Children and Youth Investment Trust Corp and the Alternatives to the Court Experience (ACE), a collaboration between Parent and Adolescent Support Services (PASS), the Department of Behavioral Health
(DBH), the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), Court Social Services (CSS), and community-based behavioral health services providers.

What does a grant reviewer do?
Reviewers evaluate 6 to 8 proposal applications on average and then convene with fellow reviewers and a Trust facilitator to discuss findings. The goal of this debrief session is to assign final scores to each proposal application and to select proposals that will move to the next level of review.

What qualifications should reviewers have?
The Trust is looking for a diverse group of reviewers who reside in the DC Metropolitan Area and who have experience with or knowledge of: Diversion, Juvenile justice, Youth development, Grant writing and grant management, and/or Community-based programming in the following areas:

o General Educational Development (GED)
o Tutoring
o Mentoring
o Job Readiness/Vocational Training
o Arts
o Sports
o Family Support
o Education and Enrichment activities and evidence-based practices proven to reduce youth recidivism

Reviewers must be comfortable reading a large volume of material within a short timeframe and providing analysis in a small group setting.

What is the time commitment?
Reviewers must commit to one reviewer training session scheduled during the week of November 17, 2014 and to one debrief session scheduled during the week of December 8, 2014 (times will depend on reviewer availability). The time period between the reviewer training and debrief session will provide approximately threeweeks for reviewers to evaluate and score proposals.

What type of compensation do reviewers receive?
Reviewers will receive a $50.00 American Express Gift Card for full participation. Full participation includes attending a training session, completing and submitting proposal reviews and attending a debrief session. *DC Government employees are not eligible to receive an American Express Gift Card.

How can I apply to become a grant reviewer?
To apply, please email your resume to Kara Smith at ksmith@cyitc.org. Please feel free to share this announcement with others who you feel would be interested in serving as a grant reviewer for the Trust.

What is the deadline to apply?
The deadline to apply is Friday, November 7, 2014. However, please feel free to submit your resume as soon as possible. We will begin reviewing resumes as they arrive.

What are the next steps after submitting a resume?
The Trust will review resumes and contact only qualified applicants via email within 3 business days of the deadline date.

The proposal review process is a critical component in our efforts to select a variety of high-quality programs that serve children, youth and families throughout the District of Columbia.
