[dcab-l] Jam Bluegrass - - Hailey Farm on Oct. 13, 3:00 (Northern VA)

Pickers!

Here we go again! Saturday, October 13 at 3:00 p.m., Tricia and the Bull Run Bluegrass Music Association will host another jam.  Note the time is 3:00 p.m. rain or shine (You might end up in the barn, but you'll be pickin'!)

All levels of ability welcome. Multiple circles.  Bring a snack if you wish. Last jam we had about 20 pickers. There were some who let us know they could not be there, so this month should be even bigger!

In Virginia, Route 29 near its intersection with Vint Hill Road.  From Gainesville go west on 29 past Vint Hill Road and into the right turn lane for Pilgrim's Rest.  Turn right and go to the third right which is Covey Road. Turn right and pass the trees in the middle of the road. At the pond make a hard left into the asphalt driveway at 6206 Covey Road, Warrenton, VA 20187.

We'll go 'til we stop . . .

[BloomingdaleActionList] Re: [Flood Issues (BdaleLeDroit)|#238] ~ FREE Rain Barrels & Cisterns

Thanks, Scott.

I finally finished the first draft of the rain barrel meeting minutes late last night, so I'll publish those today or tomorrow as soon as Mark, DDOE, WASA, and DC Greenworks have a chance to review and contribute clarifications as needed.

[BloomingdaleActionList] Friday Weekly Storm Water Management Happy Hour

Neighbors:

We just completed the trial case of the first weekly storm water management (SWM) happy hour in Bloomingdale.

The intent of this weekly event is to assemble a group of SWM professionals to discuss topics that friends would otherwise veto in social settings and to provide a venue where the community can come to seek answers to SWM technical questions without incurring hourly consulting fees.

Tonight's attendees included technicians and policy-makers with lots of interest in both the rain barrel program and McMillan Park storm water storage. Please join us next week to ask and/or answer questions. We're expecting a great turnout next week from the civil engineering and hydrological communities.

Tonight was Boundary Stone; next Friday will likely be Rustik Tavern. We'll provide an update as soon as plans evolve.

Happy Friday,

Hugh

[BloomingdaleActionList] Re: FREE Rain Barrels & Cisterns -- Please Tell Your Neighbors Who Lack Digital Access!

Clarification: "first-born child etc" refers to the stiff liability clause that many neighbors testified about at CM Cheh's hearing this week that deters them from engaging the Backflow Preventer Program.

Happy Friday,

Hugh

[BloomingdaleActionList] Burglary and Suspicious Character on V Street NW

Commander,

Officer D. Smith suggested that I email you.

Last Wednesday morning, my basement apartment at 120 V Street NW, which I rent out, was burglarized when someone entered through an unlocked door and stole a book bag containing text books and a laptop. My tenant reported the theft to the police soon after he realized it took place.  The books were recovered when they were found by a stranger lying on Flagler.

Since then, four different neighbors have seen a young black male (approximately 15-17 years old, dark complected, about 5 8, medium build, short hair with rows, wearing black sneakers and a black -- and sometimes blue -- hoodie) trying doorknobs on the 100 block of V Street NW several days in a row (including today) anywhere between about 7:30 am and 8:40 am.  A neighbor two doors down saw him trying to enter the basement apartment of the house in which she rents and chased him off, and I've been told another neighbor saw him trying to enter parked cars.  Yet another neighbor, who lives directly across the street, has him on videotape walking up the stairs to my house.  Unfortunately, the tape does not show him entering my basement apartment, because the view to the basement is blocked by a tree and his face is obscured by a hood.  A fourth neighbor scared him away today after calling the police and actually followed him down Flagler and onto U Street NW.

Officer Smith said that burglaries are on the rise and burglars may be targeting Bloomingdale and Ledroit Park, because they believe newly-arrived college students may be more lax about security.

Would you please step up your surveillance of the 100 block of V Street NW, particularly in the morning, and keep a sharp eye out for this suspiciously-behaving young man?  My neighbors have been advised to call 911 as soon as they see him.

Please feel free to contact me if you need additional information.

Thank you,

Patrick
