Young Education Professionals to Connect More of Tomorrow's Education Leaders
with Expansion to Colorado and New York City

Washington, DC – Young Education Professionals-DC (YEP-DC), a DC-based nonprofit that connects tomorrow's education leaders, announced today that it has formed an umbrella organization called Young Education Professionals (YEP) and has expanded to Colorado and New York City. To aid in the expansion, the group has launched a new website, www.youngedprofessionals.org, which will act as a portal to all current and future YEP chapters.

Since YEP-DC's re-establishment in 2007, the group has become the premier organization for young education professionals in the DC area to connect, find new career opportunities, and learn about major topics in education. The two new chapters have been started by YEP-DC members who relocated to other cities and missed the events and connections they made through YEP-DC.

"YEP-DC was created to give young professionals who are passionate about education a venue to connect with potential employers, colleagues, and friends around the topics we care most deeply about," said Kate Blosveren, President and co-founder of YEP-DC. "It is heartening and truly exciting to see education professionals across the country embrace this model and anchor it in their own communities."

YEP-DC was based on a YEP group that existed in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Michael Petrilli, Executive Vice President of The Thomas B. Fordham Foundation and member of the original YEP group, added, "When a few of us hatched the idea for YEP, we could have never imagined what a large, vibrant, and effective organization it would become. This expansion is great news for the education policy community, as it's a fantastic way to attract and cultivate talent in our sector."

About Young Education Professionals
Young Education Professionals was created by and for young professionals in support of the belief that education in the United States will be improved if education professionals connect with each other in a range of environments. YEP provides tomorrow's education leaders with opportunities to build connections with their peers around the common goal of improving education through policy, research, and practice. The organization accomplishes this through regular programming and membership activities that foster relationship-building, knowledge development, career and professional development, and community engagement. YEP is a completely volunteer-run organization with over 3,900 members across the nation.
