About Achievement Prep: Opened in 2008, Achievement Prep has quickly risen to become one of the highest-performing middle schools in DC. Located in the Washington Highlands community in Ward 8, the school is literally closing the achievement gap for its scholars within 1-2 years. Current 8th graders at Achievement Prep—where over 80% of students are low-income and 95% are Ward 7 and 8 residents—even outperformed their peers at Deal Middle School in the prosperous Tenleytown area on the 2011 DC-CAS.
About the event: In an effort to build new relationships and to thank the community for its support, we are hosting the Inaugural Achievement Prep Community Day this Saturday, May 5. The day will be a celebration of the East of the River Community, highlighting a range of health, social services, and job resources available for residents, and offering an afternoon of free food, music and festivities for children. Hill Country BBQ, based in New York, is sponsoring food and beverage for the event, and there will be free items—from iPods to gift cards—raffled off across the day. Join us for an afternoon of celebration in Ward 8.--
