[YEP-DC] Grant Reviewing Opportunity for Youth Summer Programs

The Trust Seeks Grant Reviewers for FY14 One City Youth Initiative Summer Programming Proposals

The Trust is seeking individuals to review funding proposals for the FY14 One City Youth Initiative Summer Programming Proposals. This is an excellent opportunity to network with colleagues in the fields of youth development and out-of-school time, to learn more about the grant-making process, to develop grant-writing skills, to learn about exciting initiatives happening in local DC schools, and to contribute your knowledge and experience in helping the Trust select high-quality summer programs throughout the District of Columbia.

What does a grant reviewer do?
Reviewers evaluate 6 to 8 proposal applications on average and then convene with fellow reviewers and a Trust facilitator at an in-person debrief session to discuss findings. The goal of the debrief session is to assign final scores to each proposal application and to select proposals for recommendation to the next level of review.

What qualifications should reviewers have?
The Trust is looking for a diverse group of reviewers who reside in the DC Metropolitan Area and who have experience with youth development, education, community-based programming, and/or grant writing and grant management. Reviewers must be comfortable reading a large volume of material within a short timeframe and providing analysis in a small group setting.

What is the time commitment?
Reviewers must commit to one reviewer training session scheduled from March 10, 2014 to March 14, 2014 and to one debrief session scheduled from March 31, 2014 to April 4, 2014 (times will depend on reviewer availability and consensus). The time period between the reviewer training and debrief session will provide approximately two weeks for reviewers to evaluate and score proposals.

What type of compensation do grant reviewers receive?
Reviewers will receive a $50.00 American Express Gift Card for full participation. Full participation includes attending a training session, completing proposal reviews, and attending a debrief session. *DC Government employees are not eligible to receive an American Express Gift Card.

How can I apply to become a grant reviewer?
To apply, please email your resume to rfpreview@cyitc.org. Please use the subject line “OCYIS-Reviewer Application” in your email. Feel free to share this announcement with others who you feel would be interested in serving as a grant reviewer for the Trust.

What is the deadline to apply? The deadline to apply is March 7, 2014. However, please feel free to submit your resume as soon as possible. We will begin reviewing resumes as they arrive.

What are the next steps after submitting a resume?
The Trust will review resumes and contact only qualified applicants via email within 5 business days of submission. Thank you for your interest in serving as a grant reviewer and for sharing this announcement within your networks. The proposal review process is a critical component in our efforts to select a variety of high-quality programs that serve children, youth and families throughout the District of Columbia.
