Our Mission: Scholar Academies exists to close the achievement gap by providing high-quality public education for traditionally underserved inner-city students.
Our Schools:
Scholar Academies currently operates three Young Scholars Schools in Philadelphia, two DC Scholars Schools in Washington D.C., and one NJ Scholars School in Trenton, New Jersey.
- Young Scholars Charter School: our flagship, free, open-enrollment middle school
- Young Scholars Frederick Douglass Charter School: a turnaround school through the School District of Philadelphia's Renaissance Charter School Initiative, serving a neighborhood catchment area in grades K-8
- Young Scholars Kenderton Charter School: a turnaround school through the School District of Philadelphia's Renaissance Charter School Initiative, serving a neighborhood catchment area in grades K-8
- DC Scholars Stanton Elementary: a Washington, DC Public Schools turnaround school serving the neighborhood students in grades Pre-School-5
- DC Scholars Public Charter School: Founded in 2012, serving the neighborhood students in grades Pre-School-4.
- Paul Robeson Charter School for the Humanities: a Trenton Public Charter School, re-started by Scholar Academies in 2012, serving the neighborhood students in grades 4-8.
Our vision is to drive systemic change within cities through a quality education. As one of the few charter management organizations developed as a hybrid, we will capitalize on opportunities that arise within failing, traditional school systems from the inside out; and to act as an entrepreneur by exploring opportunities to create new schools from the bottom up. We will open our first Memphis campus in 2015.
Our Network:
- Student-centered culture with 100% mission alignment, dedication to high standards for all students, and the drive for taking on the hardest work and achieving amazing results
- School-wide character education sessions for students where we set clear expectations for student behavior and address obstacles as they arise
- Clear standards for teacher evaluations and performance measurement
- Support of a central office dedicated to continuous improvement our school-wide model
