DC Public Education Fund (Education Fund; www.dceducationfund.org) seeks a dynamic Portfolio Associate who will play an integral role in engaging private sector and general public donors to support the improvement of District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS).
Background:
The Education Fund is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to improving DCPS by engaging the business, philanthropic, and school communities in strategic reform initiatives that drive student achievement, including school improvement, principal leadership, teacher development, and student supports. Working closely with the Chancellor and her senior leadership team, the Education Fund develops proposals, manages grants, and supports ongoing relationships with private funders on behalf of DCPS. Since 2007, the Education Fund has invested nearly $75 million in support of improvements and reform in DCPS.
Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Portfolio Director, the Portfolio Associate will support the development and implementation of strategies to raise significant private funding for, and support the management and implementation of, prioritized, high-impact projects that are part of the DCPS' system-wide reform. Example job responsibilities include:
Fundraising:
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies with the Portfolio Director for innovative, high-impact DCPS projects – targeting and engaging an array of national and local donors including foundations, corporations, and high net worth individuals.
- Support all aspects of fundraising for specific projects and initiatives, including: researching prospective donors and partners; tracking prospects and results; developing revenue generation strategies and initiatives; helping to forge and maintain relationships with potential funders; working with DCPS program teams to hone ideas and develop proposals; and writing proposals and creating budgets.
- Support donor communication during all phases of proposal creation and reporting, facilitate donor relationship with DCPS, and ensure accountability and compliance with grant agreements via written reports and funder briefings.
Program Management:
- Assist Portfolio Director in project management by working with the DCPS program team to refine goals, objectives, desired outcomes, and success metrics, and attending meetings to monitor project progress and support the reporting process.
- Manage budgets and spending to support program implementation for DCPS initiatives.
Organizational Development
- Work with all members of the Education Fund to develop and update organization goals, strategic plans, and fundraising strategies.
- Support internal projects to improve the organization's work.
Qualification Requirements:
Candidates should have a passion for education and a belief that all children deserve an excellent education. Candidates should enjoy working in a results-oriented, fast-paced, collaborative and entrepreneurial environment. A successful candidate will possess:
- Bachelor's degree from a leading university.
- 2-3 years of professional experience.
- Experience in fundraising, including writing of proposals and experience with The Raiser's Edge or other database software is desired, but not required.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven, fast paced environment.
- Top-notch writing skills, and a desire to dedicate significant time and energy to writing multiple types of documents (reports, presentations, proposals) for multiple audiences.
- Strong verbal communications skills.
- Strong analytic, strategic, and planning skills.
- High level of personal responsibility, initiative, and motivation with strong organizational skills; ability to drive projects forward and be persistent, as well as be flexible and patient.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, aptitude for working with a wide range of individuals, and strong collaborative teamwork skills.
