General Summary:
The Instructional Coach will provide job embedded, on-site program support to the upper and lower schools. The Instructional Coach will provide to teachers in the implementation of research-based curriculum and model instructional techniques that teachers are expected to adopt in their classrooms, and co-teach to support teachers as they practice new instructional strategies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides standards-based demonstration lesson in reading, language arts, technology and mathematics using the CAPCS curriculum materials
- Helps teachers to examine and be familiar with his/her curriculum and standards and provides instruction non implementing the standards in the classroom
- Helps teachers develop effective instructional delivery skills
- Assists in analyzing CAPCS assessment data to plan for instruction
- Assists teacher in analyzing student data in order to develop instructional strategies
- Observe work of teaching staff and provides written constructive feedback to teachers
- Helps teachers with planning process
- Meets regularly with grade level teams to converse, interact, share issues, promote best practices, and reflect
- Participates in site-visits and walk-through to observe classroom environments and student work
- Pursues self-improvement and stays abreast of curriculum trends and "best practice" research
- Teaches and models the appropriate behavioral code to all students and staff
- Designs, conducts, and facilitates professional development needs for each teacher
- Effectively communicates with Academy Leaders and keeps them informed and abreast of classroom-based knowledge and skills needed to hold teachers accountable for program implementation and student achievement
- Maintains logs of work with students and teachers in an organized and efficient manner
- Organize production and design of curriculum materials
- Observes appropriate work hours and adheres to contractual requirements regarding time, attendance, and the reporting of leave
- Assumes responsibility for other duties as assigned by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction
Qualifications
- Language Skills:This position requires good communication skills, both orally and written. English is necessary; Spanish is very helpful. The incumbent should have the ability to organize and lead workshops, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- Mathematical Skills: This position requires basic mathematical skills, including, but not limited to simple arithmetic and basic algebra.
- Reasoning Ability: This position requires a warm and empathetic disposition combined with a genuine desire to improve the quality of life of the families. The incumbent must be observant and possess analytical listening skills.
- Other Skills & Abilities:The position requires moderate computer proficiency; word processing skills; conceptual organization skills; communication skills; and the ability to work with little supervision. It also requires knowledge of social work and early childhood education. The incumbent will need to show evidence of patience, resilience, the ability to remain calm in a crisis, flexibility to adapt to new roles, tasks, and situations, and initiative.
- Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, Reading, or Mathematics or related field; Master's preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years of recent classroom experience
- Knowledge of research-based pedagogy and curriculum development appropriate for early childhood, elementary and middle school education
