[YEP-DC] edcamp MetroDC: Free unconference on April 13 for DC Area educators

Hi YEP-DC members, 

Please consider registering to attend edcamp Metro DC, free for all educators, at http://edcampmetrodc.org/

edcamp MetroDC, an innovative education conference free to educators, based on a model sweeping the nation, will be held at Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland on Saturday, April 13. The structure of the conference is very informal, with attendees proposing sessions and planning their schedules as they arrive in the morning.

The conference will be free of corporate vendors and booths, with a focus solely on conversations about education. Attendees from all over the greater metro DC area are invited, including classroom teachers, administrators, coaches and school board members. There will be time for attendees to gather informally to share ideas as well as a variety of sessions for them to attend, run by their colleagues and fellow educators.

This event is based on the edcamp model, also known as an unconference (http://edcamp.org). The defining characteristics of an edcamp are as follows:

• free
  
• non-commercial and conducted with a vendor-free presence
  
• hosted by an organization interested in furthering the edcamp mission
  
• made up of sessions determined on the day of the event
  
• events where anyone who attends can be a presenter
  
• reliant on the "law of two feet" as participants find a session that meets their needs
