Haynes is named for Dr. Euphemia Lofton Haynes - the first African-American woman to receive a doctorate in mathematics and a DC public school teacher for 47 years. E.L. Haynes is among the top-performing charter schools in Washington D.C., and is recognized locally and nationally as a model and for our exceptional student achievement gains.  E.L. Haynes currently serves nearly 1,200 students in grades PreK-12th.

Description

 

The Instructional Recruitment Manager is responsible for working to ensure that the highest quality, mission-aligned school leaders, teachers, and staff members join E.L. Haynes.  The Instructional Recruitment Manager is responsible for employee recruitment, hiring, on-boarding, and general recruitment strategy activities. The Instructional Recruitment Manager will implement strategies to increase recruitment and hiring efficiency and quality.  In addition, the position will work with the Director of Human Capital, Principals, and other Instructional and non-instructional leaders to assist in the recruitment, retention, and development of EL Haynes' staff members.  The Instructional Recruitment Manager will embrace the school's vision while promoting the school's core values and while striving to create an enjoyable work environment.

 

This position will be a critical part of the E.L. Haynes Academic team and will work closely with our senior leadership team.  This position will report to the Director of Curriculum and Academic Support.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

Recruitment

  • Identify opportunities for outreach, and represent and promote E.L. Haynes through external events, on-campus tours, and other opportunities
  • Stay abreast of recruitment best practices and assist in developing, in conjunction with senior leadership and the Director of Human Capital, the recruitment and hiring strategy for the organization and lead the implementation of new and improved recruitment and hiring practices
  • Lead the school's recruiting efforts, including identification of staffing needs, creating and posting job descriptions internally and externally, organizing and representing the school at recruitment events
  • Lead and track participation in the staff referral bonus program
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external partners and organizations to assist with recruitment of high quality candidates, including Teach For America, TNTP, Urban Teacher Center,  University partners, and DC Teaching Fellows
  • Coordinates with the KIPP Capital Teaching Residency (CTR) team on recruitment, hiring, and placement of residents in our teacher preparation program
  • Research, plan, and lead execution of all internal and external recruitment events
  • Manage online Applicant Tracking System (ATS), TalentEd Recruit&Hire, and conduct annual analysis of the system's functionality and ability to meet our needs. Conduct landscape and cost/benefit analysis to determine if a new ATS is necessary

 

Hiring

  • Maintain system for tracking candidates and generate annual and/or quarterly reports on hiring metrics
  • Screen candidates to evaluate qualifications or eligibility based on minimum role requirements and state compliance
  • Maintain an applicant pipeline for future and current openings
  • Contact applicants to inform them of employment possibilities, consideration and selection
  • Schedule, coordinate, and conduct initial phone interviews
  • Manage logistics for in-person interviews, including preparation of interview materials, coordination with campus-based/department leadership
  • Schedule, coordinate, and host candidates' on-site interviews and assist school leaders with finalist selection
  • Identify candidate references (both provided and not provided by the candidate) and conduct reference checks
  • Maintain strong relationships with Head of School, Chiefs, Principals, Assistant Principals, Directors, and other hiring managers in order to understand hiring needs and efficient scheduling
  • Ensure an exceptional experience for every candidate through high levels of customer service with both internal and external candidates by being honest, warm, responsive, and thorough at all times
  • Maximize the chances that high quality candidates accept E.L. Haynes' offer by promoting the organization in a competitive, friendly, honest, and professional manner
  • Serve as point of contact for external agencies to support staffing for daily substitute and long term substitute needs

 

Human Capital

  • Assist in managing each new employee's on-boarding process including helping bring new staff members on-board, answering general questions, and orienting them to E.L. Haynes
  • Assist in managing a master list of all staff members and maintain a comprehensive personnel file for every employee of the organization
  • Develop and maintain all employee job descriptions, including uploading to the internal wiki
  • Assist in completing OSSE and PCSB compliance reports regarding employee Highly Qualified status (HQT)
  • Work with Human Capital team to complete annual teacher retention report for school-based leaders
  • Assist with annual retention efforts to keep high-quality staff at E.L. Haynes
  • Serve as employee advocate by filtering employee grievances to school leaders
  • Assist with budgeting needs related to staff roster
  • Assist with other duties/tasks as needed by the Human Capital team, Chief Operating Officer, Director of Operations, and/or Head of School.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelors Degree required
  • Interest in Human Resources/Recruitment, experience with HR/Recruitment preferred
  • Prior teaching experience 
  • Commitment to the E.L. Haynes mission and serving all students
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently
  • Meticulous organization and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proven track record of being a strong team player
  • True ability to connect with people and interact with others with grace, competence, and warmth
  • Sense of humor
