Position Summary
Scholar Academies is seeking an outstanding elementary school educator who is passionate about teaching American Sign Language. Our teachers believe all students should be held to high academic standards. They cultivate a strong culture of achievement, and lead classroom communities where students are engaged and self-motivated. This Elementary American Sign Language position will be based at DC Scholars Stanton Elementary - one of our Washington, DC schools in the 2015 - 2016 academic year.

Job Requirements
Your Work
- Provide excellent ASL instruction, and make every minute count in your classroom by using Scholar Academies' proven systems
- Develop detailed lesson plans, materials, homework assignments, and assessments based on state standards and school-wide goals for student achievement
- Embrace and act on consistent feedback from school leaders who are experts on curriculum and instruction, school climate and special education
- Collaborate with other teachers to design and continuously improve instruction
- Provide differentiated learning opportunities for every student
- Reward positive student behavior, and hold students accountable using school-wide systems
- Provide additional academic support to students after school for at least one hour per week
- Develop strong relationships with family members to support student learning
Skills and characteristics
- Outstanding instructional and management skills
- Passion for American Sign Language instruction, and detailed knowledge of how to teach this subject to elementary scholars
- Ability to motivate diverse students and cultivate a strong culture of achievement
- Demonstrated use of data to inform instructional planning
- Enthusiasm and openness to continuous feedback and coaching
- Unshakeable belief that all students should be held to high academic standards
- Genuine interest in family engagement, and ability to communicate effectively with parents
- Personal alignment with Scholar Academies' core values
- Demonstrated commitment to school transformation
Educational Background and Work Experience
- Experience driving student achievement results, preferably in an urban public or charter school.
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
- Must have or be working towards in-state teacher certification
