[YEP-DC] Job Posting: Assistant Dean at Excel Academy

Excel Academy Public Charter School, Washington's first public school for girls, seeks an Assistant Dean to work with students in grades 4-7. Founded in 2008, Excel Academy serves nearly 800 Preschool through 7th grade girls. Our mission is to provide our students with a solid academic foundation and enrichment opportunities to prepare them to succeed in high school and college and to develop the skills and confidence they need to make healthy, positive lifestyle choices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Dean will perform specific responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with the Dean and fellow Assistant Dean to establish and maintain a school culture that is safe, empowering, structured and achievement-oriented
  • Refine and reinforce clearly-defined school-wide procedures that enable a structured school day, including procedures for arrival and dismissal, recess and lunch, and hallway transitions;
  • Maintain strong, positive student culture through school climate walkthroughs and common planning time meetings with teachers;
  • Support the Dean in managing special incentive programs that promote and maintain a positive school climate, high levels of attendance, and a culture of achievement;
  • Manage grade-level behavior programs including direct work with students who present challenges;
  • Maintain student discipline records, systems, and structures that support a safe learning environment for students and staff;
  • Create and implement individualized behavior plans for students with demonstrated needs;
  • Provide push-in and pullout support for students with ongoing behavior challenges;
  • Counsel students individually and in small groups around individualized behavior goals to manage crisis intervention and develop social skills and character;
  • Work closely with families, teachers, partners and community leaders to effectively support students' social emotional learning.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree required;
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience working in an urban school preferred; 
  • A performance- and results-driven approach to school leadership and student outcomes; 
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, analytic, and communications skills; 
  • Ability to establish a team-building, collegial rapport with peers, staff, students, and families; 
  • Organizational ability to set priorities, organize workload, handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines; 
  • Unwavering belief that every student can learn and the drive to help student child reach his or her potential.
  • Positive attitude, enthusiasm, self-confidence and flexibility.
