Position Title: Research Assistants for Healthy Eating Program

Period: 9/1/2015 to 9/30/2015

Reports to: Sr. Director, Healthy Eating Program


Background

Our HEALTHY EATING PROGRAM reduces hunger and increases access to healthy food for vulnerable children, families, seniors and many others in the District of Columbia. Our diverse food distribution network, which is a critical part of the safety net for those in crisis, includes Martha's Markets and Joyful Food Markets, our healthy grocery markets at elementary schools and community sites, and McKenna's Wagon, our 365-days-a-year mobile food program for those who are homeless or hungry.

Martha's Table is currently seeking a qualified candidate for four Research Assistants for Healthy Eating Program to conduct a baseline assessment in Wards 7 & 8 in September 2015. The Research Assistants will be responsible for developing and conducting surveys, focus groups and in-depth interviews with target families who are participating in the Joyful Markets to assess the impact of the Healthy Eating Program in Wards 7 & 8.


ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Review the data collection instruments (for survey, in-depth interviews and focus groups);
  • Pilot test the data collection instruments with selected Martha's Table parents who have children in the education programs;
  • Record and take notes on the interviews and focus groups;
  • Clean, verify and enter data into a database;
  • Synthesize and summarize the research findings and write report;

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in social sciences, statistics, Public Health, Epidemiology or related field; Master's degree in a related field preferred;

·         Demonstrable experience in qualitative and quantitative research and assessment methodologies;

  • Excellent use of excel and/or other statistical software;
  • Experience working with low income families;
  • Experience in food/nutrition evaluation and research a big plus.
