The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) seeks qualified graduate students for its fall internship program.
OSSE plays a unique and dynamic role in the education reform landscape of the District of Columbia. Created in 2007 through legislation that placed DC schools under the control of the Mayor, OSSE is designed to serve various state-level functions, like administering federal grants to local education agencies, setting statewide policies for District schools, collecting student data and exercising accountability, and providing educational resources and support, among other functions. As a relatively new agency evolving quickly to advance urgently needed reforms, OSSE offers an exciting and fast-paced environment for aspiring education leaders to hone their skills and grow their knowledge about education policy and administration.
Qualifications
Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate degree program with good academic standing. Students of law, public policy, public administration, business or finance, education, communications, or information technology especially encouraged to apply. We are unable to compensate interns but will coordinate academic credit with your institution if requested. We are looking for applicants with the following qualities:
· Good written and verbal communication skills.
· Flexible and willing to adapt to changing needs.
· Initiative to complete tasks independently with little supervision.
· Available to work on-site at our office at 810 First St. NE, 9th Floor for a minimum fifteen hours a week for at least one semester, with the option to continue in spring contingent on performance and need.
· Eligible to work in the United States.

Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education (DME)

The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education (DME) seeks qualified graduate students for its fall internship program. DME plays a unique and dynamic role in the education reform landscape of the District of Columbia. Created in 2007 through legislation that placed DC schools under the control of the Mayor, the DME is responsible for developing and implementing the Mayor's vision for academic excellence and creating a high quality education continuum from birth to 24 (from early childhood to K-12 to post-secondary and the workforce). The three major functions of the DME include:
1. Overseeing a District-wide education strategy
2. Managing interagency and cross-sector coordination
3. Providing oversight and/or support for education-related agencies.
DME offers an exciting and fast-paced environment for aspiring education leaders to hone their skills and grow their knowledge about education policy and administration.

2. LEGAL INTERNSHIP

DME plays a unique and dynamic role in the District of Columbia's unique education landscape. Specifically, DME is responsible for the planning, coordination, and supervision of all public education and education-related policies in the District. DME also develops and implements the mayor's vision for academic excellence and creating a high quality education continuum for District residents from early childhood through to the workforce. DME offers an exciting and fast-paced environment for aspiring leaders to hone their skills in, and grow their knowledge of, education policy, law, and administration.
The three major functions of the DME include:
1. Overseeing a District-wide education strategy.
2. Managing interagency and cross-sector coordination.
3. Providing oversight and/or support for education-related agencies.
Qualifications
Applicants must be enrolled in an ABA approved law school with good academic standing. We are unable to compensate interns but will coordinate academic credit with your institution if requested. We are looking for applicants with the following qualities:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven research skills (advanced legal research coursework preferred).
Flexibility/willingness to adapt to changing needs.
Takes initiative to complete tasks independently with little supervision.
Available to work at our office at 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW for a minimum of 12 hours per week for at least one semester, with the option for additional semesters contingent on performance and need. Working remotely may be considered depending on project and supervising attorney.
