Apply for a TLI Department Chair position in DCPS!
In 2013 DCPS launched the Teacher Leadership Innovation (TLI) pilot, a unique opportunity that allows teachers to spend part of the day teaching and part of the day coaching their peers. In 2015-16, the TLI program will expand to include TLI Department Chairs who will revolutionize the traditional secondary department chair role in the four core subject areas in six high schools, with the goal of expanding to additional DCPS high schools in 2016-17.
This new position, the TLI Department Chair, will give outstanding secondary teachers the opportunity to serve as content coaches for their departments – conducting informal observations, providing regular feedback, and supporting their colleagues with planning. In addition to the $2,500 department chair stipend, teachers in the TLI Department Chair role will be released from 1/3 of their teaching loads. They will also participate in high-quality training and support delivered in collaboration by the DCPS Teacher Leadership team and their partners at Leading Educators, an organization that specializes in developing teacher-leaders (www.leadingeducators.org).
Teachers who have three or more years of teaching experience in their subject area are eligible to apply. The priority deadline is April 20, though applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis so candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
To apply, external candidates should:
- Visit joindcpublicschools.com/teachers to begin the teacher application.
- Submit a resume and indicate their interest in the department chair role via email:teacher.effectiveness@dc.gov.
Please note that all TLI Department Chairs MUST attend two weeks of mandatory summer professional development: July 6 – 10 and July 27 – 31. Any questions about the DCPS teacher application can be directed to dcpscareers@dc.gov. Questions about the TLI Department Chair role and selection process can be directed to teacher.effectiveness@dc.gov.
