[YEP-DC] Opportunities at DC Public Schools

DCPS Program Assistant, Teacher Effectiveness Strategy

We are looking for highly motivated and skilled talent to join our team at the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). We seek individuals who are passionate about transforming the DC school system and making a significant difference in the lives of public school students, parents, principals, teachers, and central office employees.

Position Overview

The Office of Human Capital is at the center of many of the Chancellor's most important reforms, which focus on what has come to be recognized as the most critical school-based factor in driving student achievement: teacher quality. Under the direction of the Chief of Human Capital, the Office works toward the goal of having a highly effective teacher in every DCPS classroom through a range of initiatives spanning teacher recruitment, selection, compensation, evaluation, development, recognition, and retention.

The Program Assistant for Teacher Effectiveness Strategy will be part of a team charged with driving the strategic work that continues to push the district toward our goal of having the strongest educator force in the nation. The team's work includes implementing DCPS's new, cutting edge teacher career ladder initiative; continuing to refine and improve the district's teacher evaluation and performance pay systems; developing and executing new teacher effectiveness strategies related to recognition, retention, and extending the reach of our best teachers; and developing a strategic approach to professional development programs in schools.

The Teacher Effectiveness Strategy team is also charged with leading the design and implementation of new initiatives made possible by DCPS's $62 million Teacher Incentive Fund Grant, awarded in October 2012.

 Educational Requirements

·       Bachelor's Degree

 Qualifications

·       Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills

·       Strong organizational skills, including keen attention to detail, and the ability to adhere to strict deadlines

·       Exceptional writing and oral communication skills

·       Excellent time-management and a willingness to work non-standard hours

·       Strong data analysis skills

·       The ability to learn quickly, work in a fast-paced environment, and multi-task effectively.

·       The ability to proactively identify challenges and work to find solutions

·       The ability to work independently while collaborating with others on meeting common goals

·       Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office suite

 

Responsibilities

·       Support the implementation of teacher leadership opportunities including the Chancellor's Teachers' Cabinet and Teachers Central to Leadership Fellowship; plan and facilitate information sessions to encourage teachers to apply, coordinate the application and selection processes, plan meetings, and manage communication with teachers.

·       Assist with existing teacher recognition and retention initiatives, including the Teaching in Action program and Monthly Meet-up Groups; support the implementation of new recognition and retention initiatives as necessary.

·       Manage all administrative processes for the Teacher Effectiveness Strategy team, including day-to-day operations, communication with school-based and central office staff, maintaining databases, executing aspects of the procurement process, and tracking the team's budget.

·       Coordinate with other DCPS teams and with key personnel at the Department of Education to assist with the administration of DCPS's $62 million 2012 Teacher Incentive Fund Grant.

·       Support the execution of New Teacher Orientation, including planning professional development sessions, identifying facilitators, communicating with teachers, and managing logistics.

·       Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analyses based on surveys, interviews, focus groups, and teacher evaluation data.

·       Attend teacher forums with the Chancellor and other members of the leadership team; take notes, prepare summaries of key takeaways, and execute next steps as necessary

·       Support the nomination and selection processes, and help plan related recognition events for teacher awards programs.

·       Build relationships and liaise with various central office departments, school leaders, teachers, and other school-based staff.

·       Maintain partnerships with external organizations that offer professional development and fellowship opportunities and target teachers to apply.

·       Draft and revise internal and external documents including memos, marketing materials, and other communication documents.

·       Support the work of other teams within the Office of Human Capital as necessary, including the IMPACT Team and Recruitment and Selection Team.

·       Propose new initiatives to meet the goals of the Office of Human Capital.

·       Perform other related duties as assigned.
