Full-time Position
General Description: Center for Inspired Teaching, a growing DC-based nonprofit dedicated to social change through improving education, seeks a creative, detail-oriented individual with superior writing skills to serve as Development Manager and Grant Writer. The Development Manager and Grant Writer, reporting to the Executive Director, will manage the full grant writing process, reports to donors and concept papers, and contributes to all aspects of the organization's development and fundraising strategy.

We train teachers to inspire young people to become knowledgeable, self-disciplined, and compassionate citizens. Students of Inspired Teachers learn to think and solve complex problems in school and in real life and actively strive to make positive change in their communities and in society.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Managing a diverse portfolio of grants from foundation, corporate, and government supporters.
- Writing and revising grant proposals and applications including development of attachments, budgets, and reports for grant requests; coordinating with program and executive staff to meet all deadlines and requirements.
- Managing day-to-day fundraising operations, including tracking grant and reporting deadlines, recording all interactions with current/prospective donors in donor database, and keeping files up to date.
- Actively researching, identifying, and cultivating prospective funding sources from local and national foundations, corporate and government agencies, and individual donors.
- Overseeing preparation and writing of documents for submission, including proofreading, editing, submitting to the funding source, and following up.
- Preparing budgets and other documents that accompany grant proposals and grant reports with the assistance of executive staff and the Operations Manager.
- Proactively attending meetings and conferences relevant to the education and fundraising field.
- Recruiting and managing the Development Intern.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required with 2 years of experience working with nonprofits, including 1 year of development or grant writing experience.
- Excellent writer, creative and strategic thinker with ability to clearly articulate organizational mission, programs, and present Center for Inspired Teaching in a compelling and effective manner.
- Ability to represent the organization in face-to-face donor and client meetings, and to identify and cultivate new donors.
- Familiarity with issues related to teaching and learning and U.S. education policy trends; understanding of and belief in Inspired Teaching's progressive philosophy of education and inquiry-based teacher training methodology.
- Entrepreneurial spirit, integrity, and a sense of humor.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and initiative.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Welcoming presence: ability to generate enthusiasm for the organization, elicit cooperation, and get information over the phone, via email, and in person.
- Knowledge of personal computer applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, email, search engines, databases, prospect research tools); familiarity with Salesforce or e-Tapestry a plus.
