Our Mission: Scholar Academies exists to close the achievement gap by providing high-quality public education for traditionally underserved inner-city students.
Our Schools:
- Young Scholars Charter School: our flagship, free, open-enrollment Middle School where students are selected by lottery from across the city of Philadelphia
- Young Scholars Frederick Douglass Charter School: a Philadelphia Public School District turnaround school serving students from the neighborhood in grades K-8
- DC Scholars Stanton Elementary: is turnaround school operated in partnership with DC Public School serving neighborhood students in grades Pre-School-5
- DC Scholars Public Charter School: a free, lottery-based, open-enrollment charter startup founded in 2012, serving students from across the DC in grades Pre-School-3.
- Paul Robeson Charter School for the Humanities: a free, lottery-based, open-enrollment charter school serving students from across Trenton in grades 4-8. This charter re-start opened as a Scholar Academies School in 2012.
Our vision is to drive systemic change within cities through a quality education. As one of the few charter management organizations developed as a hybrid, we will capitalize on opportunities that arise within failing, traditional school systems from the inside out; and to act as an entrepreneur by exploring opportunities to create new schools from the bottom up. Our goal is to operate 12 schools serving 6,000 students in three cities along the northeast corridor by 2015.

- School-wide character education sessions for students where we set clear expectations for student behavior and address obstacles as they arise
- Clear standards for teacher evaluations and performance measurement
- Support of a central office dedicated to continuous improvement our school-wide model
Your Work:
- Set annual vision for school culture and manage the Dean of Culture to implement and build upon this vision
- Provide excellent instructional support and coaching to classroom teachers, including:
- Supervise and support the development detailed lesson plans, homework assignments, and assessments based on state standards and school-wide goals for student achievement
- Review and provide feedback on lesson plans and teacher-created resources
- Observe teachers to identify and celebrate strengths
- Observe teachers to identify and prioritize areas for development
- Develop specific plans and measurable goals to support teacher development
- Provide concrete feedback and tools to teachers to improve their practice
- Develop and implement new teacher induction and support programming in collaboration with the Scholar Academies' home office team
- Conduct formal teacher evaluations using District of Columbia Public Schools IMPACT model
- Set annual vision for parent engagement and manage the Family Engagement Liaison to implement and build upon this vision
- Manage the school operations team to ensure the efficient execution of Scholar Academies' framework for operational excellent and to provide smooth, seamless day-to-day operations
- Plan professional development opportunities for teachers and staff keeping abreast of the most current research, trends, and developments.
- Partner with the School Director, leadership team and Scholar Academies' home office to ensure continuous improvement with in the school.
Your Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of teaching experience in an urban setting with a track record of success driving measureable gains with students
- Experience working with teachers to identify and prioritize areas for development
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with adults
- Experience analyzing data to identify instructional and culture trends
- Ability to model exemplary instructional and cultural practices
- Experience developing and delivering professional development to groups of teachers
- Belief that coaching dramatically improves teacher performance
