[dcab-l] Bluegrass open jam in Brunswick, MD this Easter Sunday, Mar 31

I've received several inquiries and there definitely is an open Bluegrass Jam at Beans in the Belfry, in Brunswick, MD, on Easter Sunday from 3-5 PM, with option of extending till 6 PM if the desire is there. Our first jam on March 10th was a great success. Eleven musicians showed up, including a banjo, resonator guitar, fiddle, bass, a couple of mandolins and several guitars. Six of the pickers were members of five different performing bands. You can get more information about Beans in the Belfry at beansinthebelfry.com It's a great cafe housed in a 100 year old church with soaring ceiling, huge stained glass windows, and eccentric but really comfortable seating - they server really good light fare and have a good selection of local wines, craft beers, and a great variety of teas and coffee. No cover charge.

Kevin,

Commander Solberg said his office has already sent the inquiry to "OUC" and he'll let me know when he receives a response. I don't know what the acronym OUC stands for but from the context of his message I deduced that it is a division of either MPD or 911 that is responsible to researching inquiries about whether a 911 call was appropriately handled by operators and/or officers. I'll keep you posted when I hear more.

Has MPD analyzed the case that was reported on the listserv a couple days ago - the resident who was attacked and claimed to have called 911 but no police showed up for two hours?  It's the sort of thing they should be able to verify.  Part of me wonders if it's true; In my experience they are always quick to respond, especially to a call about an assault.  It's anecdotes like this that lead some people not to bother reporting crimes, so I think it's important to verify it.  If it's true, MPD should acknowledge the failure and state how it plans to remedy it.  If it's not true, it's important to reassure the community that if they call 911, MPD will respond.

All:

As we learn more about recent incidents in Bloomingdale, I and others are receiving other reports from other individuals who say that they have run into this same (apparently) group of young boys and girls in the neighborhood, and that they have been assaulted or threatened.  It seems likely that not all events have been reported to us at the MPD.

I am therefore asking that if anyone has been a victim of any activity or knows about anything assaults or other activity committed in the area by groups of kids they get in touch with us.

Lieutenant Randy Griffin is the supervisor for all MPD efforts in PSA 501, and I ask that you use him as your point of contact if you have information we can use.  His email address is included here.

I also was in contact last night with Cmdr. Jacob Kishter of the Third District, and he reports that in 3D there have been similar incidents.  We will work together so that all MPD efforts have a centrally focused point of contact.

3D and 5D share a border along 2nd Street, NW, and in the Monday night incident where we stopped several young girls, we learned that they live in the 200 block of W Street, NW, which is in the Third District.

We remind everyone again to please call 911 to report any type of criminal or suspicious behavior so that we can take the appropriate steps.

Thank you,

Andy Solberg

Commander, 5D
