DC Public Education Fund (the Education Fund; www.dceducationfund.org) seeks a dynamic Program Assistant who will play an integral role in engaging private sector and general public donors to support the improvement of the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS).
Background:
DC Public Education Fund is the independent not-for-profit formed to catalyze philanthropy in support of strategic reform in DC Public Schools. We work alongside the school system's leadership and the philanthropic community to accelerate improvements, sustain excellence and ensure accountability through our initiatives. The Education Fund serves as a strategic partner to businesses, foundations, community leaders, and individual donors in supporting and investing in high-impact programs with the District of Columbia Public Schools. This work includes attracting critical funding resources, managing key public-private partnerships, and acting as fiscal sponsor for all grants made on behalf of DC Public Schools. Working closely with the Chancellor and her senior leadership team, the Education Fund develops proposals, manages grants, and supports ongoing relationships with private funders on behalf of DCPS.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Program Assistant will play a critical role in the day-to-day work of the office, drive key office initiatives, and offer support on select funding projects.
Core Responsibilities:
Program Support:
* Facilitate communication and collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders;
* Maintain a familiarity with programmatic work within DCPS;
* Assist in preparing proposals, reports, and other key documents;
* Assist in grants management (including providing commonly-requested organization documents and maintaining filing system for grant documents);
* Manage donation process from receipt of donations, to tracking and acknowledgement of grants and contributions;
* Respond to requests for information about DC Public Education Fund and our work;
* Conduct prospect research;
* Other projects as assigned.
Administrative Support:
* Draft select correspondence and documents for the Executive Director;
* Maintain the Executive Director's schedule;
* Serve as point person for scheduling and making logistical preparations for meetings, conference calls, and other meetings and events;
* Perform responsibilities of an office manager (including time keeping, maintenance of office supplies, and assistance with mailings);
* Maintain the organization's database including updating and cleaning data;
* Coordinate the disbursement process (including receiving invoices, preparing disbursement forms, tracking administrative expenses and mailing payments);
* Conduct preparation, research, and follow-up for funder briefings, board meetings, and other critical meetings and events.
Events:
* Provide support for special events on an as-needed basis.
Requirements:
Candidates should have a passion for education and a belief that all children deserve an excellent education. Candidates should enjoy working in a results-oriented, fast-paced, and entrepreneurial environment.
An ideal candidate must possess:
* Bachelor's degree;
* 1+ years of professional experience;
* Exceptional analytic, strategic, and planning skills;
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
* Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint;
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven, fast paced environment;
* High level of personal responsibility, initiative, and motivation;
* Ability to drive projects forward and be persistent, as well as flexible and patient;
* Excellent interpersonal skills and facility working with a wide range of individuals.
The following are desirable, but not required:
* Experience in fundraising, including writing of proposals;
* Prior experience with The Raiser's Edge or other development software.
