POSITION: Early Childhood Education Teacher Assistant
POSITION RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of DC Early Learning Program
CATEGORY OF EMPLOYMENT: Hourly / Non-Exempt
HOURS: 2:00 – 6:00pm
The Board of Child Care provides quality child care services for children, ages 12 months to 5 years, at the Early Childhood Education Center in the District of Columbia. Our dedicated staff is compassionate and professional, providing attentive care and lifetime learning experiences for your child.
LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
Our Center uses the Creative Curriculum – one of the best curriculums in the early childhood education field that is based on play and hands-on experiences. Our classrooms are spacious and well lit, and children are placed in small groups by age.
Activities include story reading, dance, music, blocks and puzzle play, dramatic play, arts and crafts, computer time, water play, introduction to academics, pre-reading, science, math, social studies, field trips and outdoor play.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interact with students in a developmental appropriate manner.
Accompany students to and from destinations, as necessary.
Provide support to the instructional program, field trips, and student activities.
Provide direct supervision to students throughout the day.
Work with individual students to reinforce learning of material initially presented by the teacher.
Assist with the implementation of the positive discipline policy.
Maintain a primary care group and complete developmental screenings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Demonstrate familiarity with cultural patterns existing within a community that may influence the behavior of children.
Work effectively as a member of a team.
Demonstrate knowledge of basic principles of childcare.
Establish appropriate relationships with students and parents on a group and individual basis, gaining their confidence and trust.
Accept supervision and feedback.
Work flexible hours including some evenings, as needed.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Able to work cooperatively with others.
Able to lift up to 40 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS:
90/45 Hour Child Development/ Child Care Certification from an accredited college.
AA in Early Childhood Development or a related field preferred.
PERFORMANCE REVIEW:
Probationary period is for six (6) months.
Performance will be reviewed six (6) months after date of hire and yearly thereafter.
