I am working with a teen magazine coming to the DMV - Love, GIRLS Magazine - DC

We are hosting a launch event on Saturday, January 18 from 1 pm - 4 pm. Our tentative location is in DC near Gallery Place. We are looking for youthful entertainment for the event. We would love a dance team or some steppers.

Achieve Tutoring is seeking a creative leader with robust classroom management skills to serve as Lead Tutor at Garrison Elementary. Ideal candidate will have 3-5 years experience in the classroom (working with 2nd-5th graders) and possess strong organizational and collaborative skills.


Lead Tutor Responsibilities:

  • Plan and Lead Power Hour, Intervention, and Enrichment Activities for each grade level (2nd - 5th)

  • Manage relationship with afterschool coordinator, principal, classroom teachers and parents

  • Oversee and manage two part-time tutors

  • Support/strengthen tutors in lesson planning and creating character building activities

  • Meet the needs of the 21st Century Grant

  • Available to work 12-15 hrs of office hours per week in addition to tutoring hours

[YEP-DC] Job Posting: Capital Teaching Residency Program Coordinator

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The mission of the Capital Teaching Residency program (CTR) is to close the achievement gap by increasing the number of highly effective educators in the District of Columbia.  We fulfill this mission by training aspiring teachers through an intensive one-year residency in high performing public charter schools, and by retaining our most effective teachers in partner schools across the DC region. POSITION OVERVIEW:
 
The CTR Program Coordinator will be a critical part of the CTR program.  The position will work closely with the KIPP DC Headquarters staff, the CTR Program Team including the CTR Program Director, CTR Manager of PD and Certification and CTR Manager of Alumni and Partnerships, and the residents, and will report to the Director of the Capital Teaching Residency Program.
 
The Capital Teaching Residency Program Coordinator role is to maximize the impact of the program by driving projects and supporting initiatives related to the recruitment, selection, matriculation, and on-boarding of new CTRs and maintaining corps communication. The Coordinator will also be responsible for supporting the administration and logistics of KIPP DC's ECE Certification Program.  They will be responsible for ensuring that 100% of our incoming CTRs are fully compliant with federal, state, and district certification requirements by the first day of school, and that they complete all required coursework, assessments and paperwork for the KIPP DC Certification Program.  As such, the Coordinator will be primarily focused on reaching goals for recruitment and certification compliance. 
 
Additionally, a portion of the Coordinator's responsibility will include supporting the team in general through event planning, preparing for professional development sessions and marketing material production and distribution. The Coordinator will also support the CTR Director with special projects on an as-needed basis.  
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with the KIPP DC and E.L. Haynes recruitment teams to strategize about CTR recruitment, attend recruitment events and  provide logistical support for CTR recruitment events and interview days
  • Coordinate, prepare materials for and attend all CTR interview days
  • Travel to training sessions and partner schools, across the district, to provide technology and logistical support to the CTR team
  • Coordinate and attend all CTR Saturday Professional Development Sessions and Summer Professional Development sessions including CTR Induction
  • Support CTRs in certification coursework and testing, including tracking and managing an online system for attendance, assessment outcomes and Praxis completion rates
  • Perform clerical duties, as required, relating to CTR textbooks, contracts, certification, attendance reports, etc.
  • Support the tracking of budgets for CTR certification programming, marketing and special events
  • Maintain an organized data collection and analysis process for the evaluations, surveys and student achievement data of CTRs and CTR alumni
  • Create high-quality reports related to resident data
  • Have the ability to lift up to or around 40 lbs
 
Serve as a full-time and engaged member of CTR and KIPP DC's staff, including accompanying students on field trips, assisting with teacher and student recruitment and enrichment activities, and working with other staff members to ensure fulfillment of KIPP DC's mission.

The College & Career Readiness Program within the Office of Post-Secondary Success has primary responsibility for preparing and supporting Maya Angelou Public Charter High School students as they transition into postsecondary education or the workforce after graduation from high school.  The College & Career Readiness staff provides pre-college support to over 300 9th -12th graders in the form of pre-college curriculum, college preparation advising, summer opportunities, internships, and college exposure experiences.  The overarching role of the Program Assistant is to assist with ensuring the effectiveness of all pre-college programs and services.  From managing small details to contributing to the larger vision, the Program Assistant will play a vital role in improving infrastructure, increasing efficiency in the delivery of services, and providing evidence-based solutions to the challenges of this work.

[dcab-l] Tuesday December 31: Bluegrass Open Mike

Get ready for the next Bluegrass Open Mike, to take place Tuesday December 31 from 8:00-midnight at the American Legion Post 268 and featuring a big New Year's Eve party with the Beltway Mountain Boys.  There'll be party hats, noisemakers, balloons, and a potluck supper, and we'll go until midnight to ring in the New Year.  It'll be a blast!

The American Legion Post 268 is at 11225 Fern Street, Wheaton, MD, easily accessible by car and just two blocks from the Wheaton Metro.

The Bluegrass Open Mikes feature something for everyone:

*  an open mike for those who'd like to strut their stuff on stage with a PA;
*  a concert series featuring the Capital Region's many talented local bands;
*  a separate room for jamming.
