Young Education Professionals-DC
Exceeds 5,000 members
Washington, DC – Young Education Professionals-DC (YEP-DC), a nonpartisan organization that connects DC's emerging education leaders, announced today that it has grown to more than 5,000 members.
YEP-DC is the flagship chapter of Young Education Professionals, which now includes chapters throughout the country. In total, there are over 7,000 YEP members across the eight chapters nationwide.
Founded in 2007 with fewer than 100 members, YEP-DC has consistently increased its membership over the years. As YEP-DC's activities and events grew more diverse and ambitious – with such events as panels, a mayoral debate, and our first annual policy-to-practice conference – our membership grew alongside our programming.
YEP-DC also has developed a comprehensive social media strategy, with a strong presence on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. These efforts have successfully engaged current YEP-DC members and enticed others to join. Just last month, YEP-DC's Twitter page exceeded 1,000 followers. Not only that, but in April of 2013, YEP-DC launched Recess, the YEP-DC blog for and by YEP-DC members.
"This milestone shows how valued YEP-DC is to the DC education community, and how much young professionals in the field want opportunities to connect with each other outside of the classroom and their offices," said Kate Blosveren Kreamer, co-founder and president of YEP-DC. "We never imagined YEP-DC would come so far when we hosted our first happy hour in 2007 and it's truly amazing to think about what we can achieve next as an organization and as a community."
YEP-DC's all-volunteer leadership team would like to thank its members for being a part of the organization and helping to make it better each year through engagement in our programming and services. We look forward to continuing to grow and build a community of around education in DC with the city's emerging education leaders.
About Young Education Professionals
Young Education Professionals was created by and for young professionals in support of the belief that education in the United States will be improved if education professionals connect with each other in a range of environments. YEP provides tomorrow's education leaders with opportunities to build connections with their peers around the common goal of improving education through policy, research, and practice. The organization accomplishes this through regular programming and membership activities that foster relationship-building, knowledge development, career and professional development, and community engagement. YEP is a completely volunteer-run organization with over 7,000 members in eight chapters across the nation. For more, see www.yepdc.org
