Charter School Works seeks qualified individuals to serve as temporary substitute teachers in local charter schools. Charter School Works provides substitute teachers exclusively to Washington, DC public charter schools. 42% of the District's youth attend public charter schools. Forecasters predict that public charter schools will educate a majority of the District's youth before 2020. Working with Charter School Works will provide you with invaluable experience in the classroom, while exposing you to the charter school world. Working for Charter School Works is the best way for individuals to give back to the community in a meaningful way, while working to change the education gap in the nation's capital. The goal of Charter School Works is to provide public charter schools with great options during the absence of the classroom teacher. As a temporary substitute teacher employee, you will have the option to work a flexible schedule. All substitute teachers are required to work a full 8 hour day during work assignments, however, substitute teachers are not required to work 40 hours a week.

The substitute teacher reports directly to the principal/school academic leader. In this role, the substitute teacher is responsible for classroom instruction, maintains fully established routines and procedures of the assigned school. Substitute teachers are responsible for overseeing student behavior in the classroom, cafeteria, and any other campus environment where the teacher is responsible for classroom supervision. Substitute teacher is responsible for following all school and district policies, rules and procedures.

Primary Responsibility:
Provide instruction while managing the classroom and promoting student learning.

Employment Type:
Temporary/Part-Time (with potential for full-time employment)

Start Date:
Employment to begin August 2013, Hiring to Begin July 2013

Physical Requirements:
Substitute teachers may be required to stand for the majority of the day. Substitute teachers may also be required to sit for long periods of time. Substitute teachers may be required to occasionally lift more than 25 pounds.

Full Day Compensation (8 Hours): $100 - $120 daily (based on qualifications)​

Half Day Compensation (4 Hours): $50 - $60 daily (based on qualifications)
