[YEP-DC] Mentor a Latino student -- change their life and yours!

Have you ever thought of becoming a mentor for Latino youth? Now is the time! Join Edu-Futuro's Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) and provide guidance and advice to a Latino student (8th through 12th grades). Applications are due on October 26th and can be downloaded at http://bit.ly/ELPONE. All mentor applicants must undergo a background check.

The Emerging Leaders Program: Part I is a leadership development and college preparation program that began in the fall of 2006 and has since served more than 50 Latino youth per year. The fall session in Arlington will be from October 30 through December 8, 2012 and will meet on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 9:00pm and Saturdays from 9:30am to 12:30pm. We will also be holding a fall session in Falls Church from October 29 through December 8, 2012 and will meet on Mondays from 6:30 to 9:00pm and Saturdays from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Mentors meet with their mentees on Saturdays at either site. You will have the opportunity to indicate your preferred site (Arlington or Falls Church) on the mentor application form.

Mentors are a vital part of the Emerging Leaders Program. They guide and inspire Latino youth to go to college and to become leaders in their communities. In the program, mentors help students develop their skills in public speaking and communications, as well as support students through the college preparation process. This includes assisting students as they apply for an Emerging Leaders scholarship and accompanying students on a field trip to a nearby college campus.
