In February 2011, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan established The Equity and Excellence Commission to address disparities in resources and opportunities that contribute to achievement gaps. The Commission's final report, For Each and Every Child, released in February 2013, is a landmark document that presents a bold vision for a more equitable American public education system, along with detailed recommendations for policymakers at the federal, state and local levels.

Meeting the Commission's goals will require unprecedented public and political will to dramatically change how schools are financed and managed. To help advance the equity agenda, The Leadership Conference is releasing a new report — a call to action designed to assist in bolstering efforts to provide each and every child the education they deserve. A distinguished and diverse panel of speakers will review what the findings and recommendations of these groundbreaking reports mean for policymakers, parents, students and educators.

Speakers will include:

  • Wade Henderson, President & CEO, The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights
  • Michael T. Nettles, Senior Vice President, Educational Testing Service
  • Christopher Edley Jr., Dean of the University of California, Berkeley School of Law; Co-Chair, The Equity and Excellence Commission
  • David Sciarra, Executive Director, Education Law Center
  • Thomas A. Saenz, President and General Counsel, MALDEF
  • Dianne Piché, Senior Counsel and Director of Education Program, The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights
  • U.S. Representative Chaka Fattah (D-PA)
  • Amy Wilkins, Senior Fellow for Social Justice, The College Board
