Subject: Our 10th Graders Need Your Help
To: <kristanelan@gmail.com>
My name is monét cooper and I'm a 10th grade teacher at Capital City Public Charter School. The 10th grade team is still looking for sponsors for the passage portfolio process! This is an intense process all 10th graders must pass before moving onto the 11th grade. It involves, reflection, research and a presentation. Of course, they can't do it alone and that's why we have wonderful people like yourselves who have volunteered to become sponsors.
We have found over 40 sponsors mainly through friends of teachers who work at Capital City. Now, we still need at least 30 more. Yes, this is a busy time of year but we hope you can help in at least one — if not two — ways.
WAY #1
Become a sponsor yourself! We're happy to help match you with a student who will benefit from your support. If you can spare an hour a week to help a 10th grader, please fill out this form: http://bit.ly/IhegJE
WAY #2
Whether or not you can be a sponsor, will you consider forwarding the information below to any friends or family who might be able to volunteer? Friends or family who live in the neighborhood would be great but anyone with a flexible schedule or the option to do community service through their work would be great, too.
We're happy to work with people's schedules if they can commit to providing support for our students.
If you want to help out more, let me know your ideas of who else the 10th grade team should reach out to within and beyond our community in order to help us find excellent sponsors.
Thank you for any help you're able to provide.

Capital City PCS is looking for sponsors for the 10th grade portfolio process
The passage portfolio process serves as a culmination of students' academic experiences thus far with an opportunity for students to reflect on their growth as learners, while also developing their skills as writers and presenters to demonstrate their increasing preparation and readiness for college level work.
Do you want to be part of an innovative approach to teaching real-world skills to students? Are you interested in doing community service to support students on their path to college? We need your help!
This spring—from May 7 through June 8, you could help make a difference in the life of a 10th grade student at Capital City by volunteering to help a student complete and prepare to present his/her portfolio. The portfolio includes work samples from all major courses and is accompanied by a reflective essay where students reflect on their strengths and stretches academically and set future goals. Students present their work to a panel of teachers and community members on June 6th-8th in order to be promoted to 11th grade.
Sponsor's Role/Responsibility:
* Help your student revise their essay
* Help your student prepare a PowerPoint for their presentation
* Work with your student on their public speaking skills
* Attend your student's panel presentation
Time Commitment
* Introductory meeting to meet your student and learn about the process.
* One in-person meeting per week at Capital City for 30-45 minutes beginning May 14 until June 8. Ideal times are before school, during lunch or after school. After the initial meeting, you and your student can determine which times are mutually convenient.
* Communication via email, phone or text (reviewing and editing documents)
* Attending your student's panel presentation (on June 6, 7 or 8) for moral support. We will aim to match the presentation with your schedule. Panelists see 2-3 presentations with a time commitment of 2-3 hours.
Where
Capital City PCS Upper School is at 16th and Park (three blocks from the Columbia Heights Metro). All meetings must take place on site.
If you're interested, please complete this survey: http://bit.ly/IhegJE
Thank you for considering this opportunity!
