[YEP-DC] Join NAF for a Special Event on Assessing College and Career Readiness

Assessing College and Career Readiness: New Student Certification System from the National Academy Foundation and WestEd

Join the National Academy Foundation for a special forum on Wednesday, July 18 from 8:30am - 10:30am at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC, to learn more about the new certification system and the impact of the career-focused academies in the National Academy Foundation network.

Panelists include:
  • JD Hoye, President, National Academy Foundation
  • Stanley Rabinowitz, Director of Assessment & Standards Development Services, WestEd
  • Hunter Rawlings, President of the Association of American Universities
It is widely recognized that work of the assessment consortia in support of the Common Core State Standards focus more on college readiness than career readiness, and a limited range of college readiness knowledge and skills at that. A new next generation assessment system designed by the National Academy Foundation and WestEd provides multiple measures of career readiness and 21st century skills that complement the CCSS assessments for the purpose of measuring college and career readiness.

The National Academy Foundation (NAF) envisions a world in which all young people have the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to lead rewarding and productive lives. NAF believes that young people should be ready for whatever pathway they choose to take. The NAF model intertwines college and career preparation because both are essential.

The new NAF Student Certificate assesses career and technical knowledge and skill proficiencies aligned with industry-recognized standards, including foundational 21st century skills essential in establishing a student's overall readiness for college and career. The certification system includes end-of-course exams, culminating project assessments, and an internship assessment. It has been piloted for the past two years and will be available to the 60,000 students at NAF academies this fall.
