We are seeking interns for education policy, learning technologies policy, and communications; all three listings are posted below. New America's Education Policy Program seeks applicants who have a strong interest in education policy for a paid Fall 2014 internship. The interns will primarily assist the program's full-time staff members with research, data, and policy analysis for issue briefs and policy reports. - Assist with planning and staffing New America Education Policy Program events
- Attend events and Congressional hearings on behalf of the education program
- Minimal administrative work
- Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of education policy. Because of the content knowledge necessary for this position, a graduate student or experienced undergraduate student is preferred
- Strong quantitative and qualitative research abilities (Stata preferred)
- Excellent writing and communications skills
- Passion for education and equity issues
- Intellectual curiosity, motivation, and a desire to learn on-the-job
- Applicants may have the opportunity to remain in the position for the full academic year

- Identify media opportunities for the program's morning communications meeting, and ahead of the release of major policy reports.
- Generate communications material, including press releases and blog posts.
- Prepare statistics on the program's weekly reach in traditional and online media.
- Create engaging content for social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
- Assist, when necessary, with producing newsletters and updating contact databases.
- Minimal administrative work.
- Excellent writing and communications skills.
- Intellectual curiosity, motivation, and a desire to learn on-the-job.
- Applied media relations experience, and demonstrated interest in education policy issues, is preferred.
- The ideal candidates will bring at least some technical expertise to the role, in an area like design and editing (e.g. InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop); mapping (ArcGIS, MapBox); data visualization (Tableau, D3); programming (HTML, Javascript, PHP); or photography.
- Any prior experience in Wordpress, social media tools like Hootsuite and Tweetdeck, relationship management software like Salesforce, media engagement software like Vocus, or emarketing software like ExactTarget and Constant Contact, is a plus.
