Compliance (Data Reporting) Specialist

 

The Compliance Specialist at the Maya Angelou Schools (MAPCS) works to ensure that the schools operate within the guidelines and regulations governing data collection and reporting. As part of this work, the Specialist spreads awareness of policies and coordinates initiatives to promote the observation of guidelines and reports. This position reports to the Director of Data, Analysis and Evaluation, as a part of the data department the specialist works closely with other specialists and school staff.

 

The person in this position will:

·         Extract and review data from instructional systems to ensure compliance to data quality standards and disseminating error reports to school staff for resolution;

·         Monitor and audit student information at the individual school sites to ensure reporting consistency and accuracy particularly around demographic data, attendance and assessments;

·         Support school leadership with monitoring and auditing staff information for consistency and accuracy particularly around compliance with professional responsibilities;

·         Develop and maintain the process for compiling, tracking and submitting reports on behalf of the organization;

·         Monitor governing agency postings for reporting obligations (e.g. OSSE Lookforward and PCSB Tuesday bulletin);

·         Collaborate with Chief of Schools and school directors to regularly review academic regulations and ensure that data procedures, documents and processes align with regulations;

·         Prepare written materials (e.g. tip sheets, training manuals) to be used by software end-users;

·         Create and maintain updated standard operating procedures manuals for the data department;

·         Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Candidates in this position will have at least a Bachelor's degree and 1-3 years of work experience. Undergraduate majors should be in areas with significant quantitative focus (social science, education, public policy, applied mathematics, statistics or related fields). A Master's degree in education research, statistics, or evaluation is a plus.

In addition, ideal candidates will:

·         Have previous exposure to the education sector particularly in the areas of policy, regulations and reporting.

·         Have previous experience with special education reporting policies and data systems (experience with EasyIEP preferred)

·         Have experience digesting educational policy and implementing data collection and analysis procedures based on that policy

·         Have intermediate to advanced knowledge of database interface and organization. Experience with Oracle platforms, SQL, Javascript preferred.

·         Have an ability to quickly merge and summarize data, including experience in data management, cleaning, analysis or report writing as demonstrated by fluency with statistical programming packages (e.g. Stata, SPSS, SAS, R) and/or advanced use of Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, lookup procedures and complex formulas with nested logic)

·         Be highly organized and demonstrate ability to managing multiple projects with deadlines simultaneously and producing expected results for each.
