Role:
All interns/ fellows at Civic Enterprises perform a variety of roles to ensure the successful completion of policy projects. Chief among them includes serving as a research assistant, which includes research and writing related to a number of projects, and other duties as assigned, including:
· collecting, processing, and assisting in the compilation and verification of research data,
discerning what research is credible and appropriate;
· conducting academic and online research as well as occasional interviews with policy experts and leaders in the relevant fields;
· some program/ project development, possibly including event planning or staffing;
· organizing information into a form that easily fits into the literature and landscape review or policy analysis of the assigned project;
· attend regular staff meetings and shadow senior staff at outside events or speaking engagements;
· scan relevant literature, publications and list-serves for data and information that may be of importance and use to the organization and develop and prepare summaries or a weekly digest to allow easy retrieval of information when needed;
· synthesizing research on policy issues into reports that guide client strategic planning and inform discussions on issues of importance to the nation;
· assist in surveys, proposals correspondence or report drafts as needed;
· assisting with social media, website updates, media outreach and the publicity process with other members of the team; and
· work closely and regularly update the project manager and/or Chief of Staff on progress to date; discern next steps for projects to ensure that our work has a measurable impact in communities.
Interns/ Fellows also assist the Chief of Staff on matters of importance to the long-term operation of the company, including working with the Office & Financial Manager to provide occasional administrative support as needed. The internship can be accompanied by a merit-based stipend based on skill level.
Qualifications include:
- Very strong qualitative and analytic skills.
- Keen attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Excellent research skills using both web-based as well as published materials. Familiarity with government and nonprofit data sources is a plus.
- Highly proficient in the use of computer software specifically Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Access.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Highly motivated and a self-starter.
- Graduate students encouraged to apply.
