JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:  Bridges Public Charter School Mathematic Elementary Curriculum and Response to Intervention Coordinator, 12 month position

REPORTS TO: Principal

 

Bridges' mission is to provide an exemplary educational program that includes all students.  Our developmentally appropriate, student and family-centered educational approach nurtures students to expand their developmental skills, in order to build a foundation for life-long learning.  Bridges Public Charter School is expanding into an elementary school program. 

 

The Mathematic Elementary Curriculum and Response to Intervention Coordinator at Bridges PCS oversees the mathematic curriculum, assessments, teacher professional developments and the Response to Intervention (RTI) program at the elementary (K-2) level.  Bridges is an expanding elementary school program currently serving 282 students in grades pre-K3–second grade.  The school's planned growth model for expansion is to add a grade level each year, with each grade level consisting of 2 inclusion classrooms and one non-categorical high level special education class.  The school will reach capacity at 5th grade serving 408 students in the 2017- 2018 school year.  The Mathematic Elementary Curriculum/RTI Coordinator is part of the Instructional Leadership Team.  This position reports to the Principal. 

 

EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in elementary education or a related field, Masters Degree preferred.
  • 5 years or more of experience with elementary education administration, coaching and teaching – preferably in the area of mathematics.
  • Preferred experience coaching professional learning communities (PLCs) of teachers in the area of breaking down math standards, creating mathematics instructional pacing guides, weekly objectives and mathematic common assessments across grades K-2nd.
  • Familiarity with the Response to Intervention approach to academic and/or behavior support.
  • Proficiency in analyzing student achievement data and using it to inform instructional choices.
  • Superior ability to coach/supervise staff members with a variety of skill sets and educational experiences.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, community members, and staff members.
  • Strong skills in partnering with other team members and families.
  • Commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Track record of being a team player and community minded.
  • Commitment to his/her own learning.
  • Excellent time-management skills and attention to detail.
  • Passion for urban public schools.
  • High level of professional and ethical standards.

 

SUMMARY:

The ideal candidate has experience teaching elementary education students and experience coaching teachers in a diverse school setting. Bridges is seeking a candidate who exhibits superior organizational and communication skills; is compassionate; can provide effective collaborative and open-minded leadership; is flexible and team-oriented with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues, administrators, and parents.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Manage all aspects of the mathematic elementary curriculum, including training teachers on the mathematic curriculum resources and expectations, maintaining classroom and school-wide resources and ensuring that teachers are able to use the mathematic curriculum tools to deliver high quality instruction.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the elementary level mathematic curriculum and assessment tools.
  •  Manage mathematic assessments and analysis of student achievement data.  Oversee outside testers who support twice-yearly assessments.  Conduct data team meetings with teachers and coach them to use data to inform mathematic instruction and intervention.  Report assessment results to the Instructional Leadership Team and other stakeholders.
  • Manage all aspects of the RTI program, including identifying students in need of intervention, communicating with families, creating intervention plans, analyzing intervention results and planning next steps.
  • Provide regular professional development, in the content area of math, to teachers through observation feedback, lesson plan feedback, monthly coaching meetings and monthly professional development workshops.
  • Provide targeted coaching and support to teachers who are struggling with mathematic instruction and/or classroom management.
  • Engage parents and families in their students' learning and act as an ambassador for the school in the community.
  • Represent the school as a subject matter expert in contact with OSSE, PCSB, federal agencies and non-profit organizations. 
  • Coordinate with members of the Instructional Leadership Team to ensure the academic program is of the highest quality and that all students are successful.
  • Contribute productively to the school as a whole.
  • Attend and participate in school events outside of regular school hours.  
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary is based on educational level, certification(s), and years of experience.  Employees will be contracted yearly. Contracts will be renewed according to evaluations and staff interest.  Health benefits (medical & dental), disability insurance, and a retirement plan: 401-(k) or the continuation of the DCPS retirement plan.

Bridges was founded in 2005 and is an expanding elementary school, growing to 5th grade by the 2017-2018 school year.  The school seeks an Elementary School Principal for the 2014-2015 school year.

Overview of the Role
The physical education teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student's ability.

 

Under the supervision of the school principal, the physical education teacher assumes professional responsibility for providing learning experiences in physical education and supervision of students in a supportive and positive climate that develops physically literate students in the areas of fitness, skill, attitude, and knowledge to meet and exceed the National Association for Sport and Physical Education and the District of Columbia Physical Education Standards and Goals. Physical education teachers will use the District of Columbia Physical Education standards to design a Scope and Sequence and Curriculum Maps to implement a robust and comprehensive physical education program that challenges all students at an appropriate level.


The following is a general list of responsibilities of the position; additional duties may be assigned.

 

Teaching and Learning

-          Responsible for instructional planning, including, but not limited to, providing written lesson plans and preparation in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program

-          Establishing positive learning expectation standards for all pupils, and evaluating pupils' progress and maintaining current and accurate records of pupils' achievements

-          Participating in the development and implementation of new teaching techniques

-          Exhibits and applies knowledge of the curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level

-          Participates in in-service meetings and professional staff meetings and uses pertinent information and materials provided

 

The Ideal Candidate will possess:
