[YEP-DC] Multiple Teacher Positions at Options PCS

Calling all M.S./H.S educators! Options Public Charter School is currently hiring teachers for the following positions:

Options Public Charter School ("Options PCS") is an open enrollment public charter school in Northeast D.C., serving students in grades 6 through 12. Options provides individualized instruction and targeted support to help all students earn the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in college and post-secondary careers. NEW FOCUS, NEW LEADERSHIP

Options PCS was founded in 1996 with the mission of providing a high quality, unique educational experience for all students, including those students most at risk of dropping out because they need additional social and academic support or have exceptionalities requiring intensive special education services.


In Fall 2014, Options PCS will re-open under the leadership of a new management team that is committed to maintaining rigor and accountability in school operations, while also providing rich support services and targeted academic interventions for all students. In 2014-2015 Options PCS  will serve a smaller student population of approximately 250 students to ensure that all students receive the services and support they require in a nurturing and engaging environment. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A teacher at Options PCS is responsible for the following:

           Create curriculum.

           Assess student learning in daily lessons, formative and summative assessments.

           Use individual student data and unique learning needs to design differentiated lesson plans.

           Modify instruction in order to effectively address student academic needs.

           Communicate with students, parents, student advisors and student support service providers to ensure that student are on-track in their learning and making progress towards goals. 

           Serve as an Advisor to a small group of students, ensuring their success in and outside the classroom.  Participate in all professional development sessions and trainings related to Advisory. 

           Follow all guidelines outlined in the Faculty & Staff Handbook and the Personnel Policy Manual.

           Perform other appropriate responsibilities of a professional staff member at Options PCS.


OVERSIGHT AND EVALUATION

           All teachers at Options PCS report to and are supervised by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

           Teachers are evaluated by formal and informal evaluations and according to the performance rubric used for all instructional staff members.

DISTINCTIVE ELEMENTS OF THE OPTIONS PROGRAM

Options PCS' new academic program will be enhanced by a range of student support services, social-emotional supports, targeted interventions and extra-curricular activities. Options courses will be small in size and engaging in their design. The school will strive to meet the individual academic and social-emotional needs of all students.

Some of the school's unique programs and offerings will include: 

-           Individualized Instruction and Additional Resources for All Students – All students at Options PCS will benefit from a targeted academic program that is designed to address their unique needs.  Options staff will work with each student to develop an individualized learning plan to ensure students make progress towards goals and earn the knowledge, skills and credits they need to graduate. Additional resources will be available for all students including credit recovery, targeted learning and behavior interventions, and after-school tutoring and support.

-           Rich Special Education Services – Options PCS will offer a rich menu of specialized instruction and educational support services tailored to meet a range of learning and social-emotional needs. 

-           Career and Technical Education – Students at Options will have the opportunity to participate in practical and engaging professional preparation programs. These course offerings will be designed to provide students with meaningful real-world job skills, while also infusing core subject area knowledge and practice. 

-           Small Class Size – Options' students will benefit from small class size and a small student-to-teacher ratio.

-           An Advisory Model – All students at Options PCS will receive personalized support from a teacher or social worker, an "Advisor" who is accountable for their students' success both in and out of the classroom.

-           In-Depth Counseling and Social Emotional Supports – Options PCS students will have access to a range of counseling and therapeutic services including guidance counseling, occupational therapy and clinical services.

-           Post-Secondary Guidance and Support – Students will participate in college and career readiness activities and will develop the tools necessary to apply for and succeed in college and the workforce. 

-           Family Involvement—A full-time staff member will engage parents and guardians in a variety of activities to promote student success. 

-           Extracurricular Activities – Options will offer a diverse range of engaging clubs and activities during and after school.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS

           Applicants should be passionate and energetic and possess a willingness to do "whatever it takes" to support student achievement. 

           Applicants should possess a belief that all students can achieve excellence, including students from under-served communities or with specialized learning needs. 

           Candidates must meet state requirements to achieve "Highly Qualified" (HQ) status under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) federal law including holding at least a B.A. / B.S. in a related field.

           Candidates with prior teaching experience and/or certification are strongly encouraged to apply.
