[YEP-DC] WATCH: David Johns on Black Mens and Boys and the Culture of Education in America



WASHINGTON, DC
  - Last month, David J. Johns, Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans discussed the need for meaningful and immediate action at Morehouse College. The Initiative supports African American educational excellence by identifying, developing, and supporting efforts designed to increase nationwide access to high-quality education and workforce development programs for African Americans. In his speech, Mr. Johns encourages young men of color to take on teaching and mentoring roles in their communities. The Initiative was established by President Obama to optimize investments made by the Administration and others to:

  • Raise awareness about education and employment challenges and opportunities to close the achievement gap facing African Americans including by changing national narratives about African American achievement;
  • Highlight policies, programs and practices that improve learning and development for African Americans; and
  • Support public-private partnerships that enhance African American educational excellence from birth through college completion and career entry.
