[YEP-DC] Job Posting: Manager, Teacher Trends at the National Council on Teacher Quality

Manager, Teacher Trends

NCTQ (www.nctq.org) has an opening for a Manager, Teacher Trends in our District Policy division, where we examine policies and practices governing the teaching profession at the school district level, as well as assist local communities in bringing about needed reforms.

The manager oversees the work of several remote research analysts who collect and analyze school district policies for NCTQ's Teacher Contract Database. Working closely with the analysts, the manager identifies policy trends and communicates those trends to stakeholders via a monthly newsletter, blog posts, and research papers. This position is a good fit for someone who is analytical, a savvy communicator, and seeks some management experience. This position reports to the Managing Director of District Policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and manage the processes needed to keep NCTQ's Teacher Contract Database up-to-date and accurate.
  • Devise ways to keep the database relevant and useful to various audiences.
  • Communicate with school district officials to understand their data needs and ensure accuracy of database information.
  • Assign and manage remote analysts' work, including collection and analysis of school district policies, data analysis, and research.
  • Lead the development, research and writing of approximately three white papers each year which expand our knowledge of the impact of school district policies on teacher quality.
  • Contribute posts to NCTQ's PDQ blog.

 QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS

The ideal candidate is able to coordinate multiple projects and people and independently drive the direction of their team's work. It is essential that they're able to create systems for tackling large projects and tracking progress towards goals. We seek someone who is a strong analytical thinker, able to conduct complex analyses without losing sight of the overall policy implications or failing to consider the realities faced by school districts.  They need to be comfortable working with large amounts of data (including proficiency in Excel), identifying trends in information and communicating those trends to external audiences.  We prize the ability to communicate clearly using straightforward language in both our written and oral work. Someone who is creative and entrepreneurial will thrive in this position, as much of the work is self-directed.

All of our employees must also have knowledge of education policies and trends, particularly in regards to the teaching profession. We require persons who have exceptional academic backgrounds, and who are highly motivated and passionate about the need for reform. As an organization, we value people who can think of new ways to approach our work.
