POSITION TITLE: Associate Director, Leadership Programs
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Leadership Programs
POSITION SUMMARY: The Associate Director, Leadership Programs provides direction and support for the design and implementation of all Leadership programs, initiatives, and events, as well as substantive input to and creation of publications and reports. The successful candidate will support a culture of excellence, teamwork, collaboration and continuous improvement across the Leadership group and will act as an example of leadership acumen to internal and external stakeholders. The associate director will report to the director, Emerging Leadership and the director, Inclusive excellence and will impact programs across the Leadership Group.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES OR TASKS: In collaboration with the directors, the CLO and staff, the associate director, Leadership Programs designs and develops a programmatic and research agenda designed to strengthen higher education by providing information, services, and professional development for new, current, and aspiring institutional presidents, chief academic officers, other senior administrators and emerging campus leaders.
Program Administration
• In partnership with directors, develops Leadership program agendas and select program facilitators and speakers.
• Supervises the logistical planning of Leadership institutes, workshops, meetings, and roundtable discussions within budget.
• Establishes evaluation metrics for the Programs and its impact on program alumni and the higher education community.
• Collaborates with the VP/CLO and directors in development of publications and other materials related to leadership development for use by campuses, higher education organizations, and the general public.
• In collaboration with the director, Emerging Leadership designs, develops and delivers the ACE Fellows Program and ACE Leadership Academy for Department Chairs to prepare the next generation of leaders for colleges and universities.
• In collaboration with the director, Inclusive Excellence develops and delivers leadership programming to support the success and expansion of women and minorities in senior higher education positions.
• Participates in counseling senior administrators to ensure successful, effective learning experiences. Maintain relations with Leadership group participants and program alumni.
• Assists in formulating and executing strategic plans for program visibility and recruitment, including marketing and promoting all leadership Programs; developing and delivering presentations about and with higher education leaders at national conferences to enhance Program visibility; creating Program marketing materials.
• Designs, implements and maintains effective project management for day-to-day operations including financial management, database processes, and on-line learning platforms.
Research, Writing and Presentations
• Identifies and researches major issues relating to leadership in higher education to ensure that Leadership program content remains relevant. Secures materials to support the Program's curriculum and research initiatives.
• Conducts literature reviews and prepares white papers and memoranda on topics related to leadership in higher education, on an as needed basis. Assists the directors in the preparation of talks and presentations. Delivers presentations to external groups, as appropriate.
• Assists in drafting of grant proposals and final reports. Works with the directors, CLO and Vice President of Advancement to develop sources, strategies, and contacts for Program funding, including grants; prepare reports and maintain communication with grant funders.
• Develops articles and materials concerning the Program, leadership development and the leadership pipeline for use by campuses and the higher education community
• Speaks on topics related to higher education leadership on ACE programs at relevant conferences and meetings.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
• Deep knowledge of higher education institutions, how they operate, and the role of leaders within the institutions.
• Knowledge of research design, evaluation, or learning assessment.
• Highly competent public speaker and writer/editor.
• Technological experience to support on-line and hybrid learning.
• Sensitivity to marketing and strategic communication operations and possibilities.
• Post-secondary teaching and curriculum development experience.
• A minimum of 8 years of professional experience and Terminal degree required.
