As The SEED Foundation replicates its model of college-preparatory, public boarding schools, we are looking for a Staff Accountant to support the finance department. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for a wide range of accounting activities, included but not limited to journal entries, reconciliations, the month end close process and audit preparation. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience as an accountant and will also have prior experience with grant accounting. This position reports to the Assistant Controller and will work closely with the finance department to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the activities of the foundation's accounting department; including but not limited to internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets
- Responsible for the complete integration of all accounting issues and services including accurate and timely financial statement production, billing and account statement production disclosure development
- Oversee the grant management process to ensure the accurate and timely processing of funds, including preparing monthly and quarterly grant report submissions
- Own the month-end closing process; reconcile bank statements, perform closing journal entries and review account balances
- Maintain weekly cash flow report
- Work with the development department to reconcile monthly gift reports
- Prepare and edit presentations and report materials, such as finance committee reports and board reports
- Provide accounting support in preparation for financial audits.
- Assist with the budget preparation process.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or other related field
- Minimum three years of experience as a staff accountant with full cycle accounting responsibilities
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
- Prior experience with grant accounting preferred
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Great Plains and FRx experience highly desired
- High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential information
- Extremely well organized and detail oriented
- Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
- Ability to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization
- Ability to work as a part of a team and independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple competing tasks and demands
- Ability to manage complex issues creatively and effectively
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
