[YEP-DC] Eastern Senior High School 2nd Annual Career Day

Dear DC Professional,

A friend of mine works at Eastern Senior High School, a DC public high school in Northeast and is recruiting professionals to participate in their Second Annual Career Day on Friday, May 10th from 9:30am-12pm. Please help Eastern meet their goal of confirming 120 volunteers from a diverse set of career fields who will gather for breakfast and then speak to two ninth or tenth grade classes (alongside other professionals) about their life's path and current career. If you would like to volunteer or know of someone who would be a good fit, please complete and forward this two-minute interest form by Friday, May 3rd and Eastern will follow up with each person directly. Thank you for considering supporting this important day and opportunity to give back to students in our local community.

[dcab-l] Re: Open Jam

Ok! OK! I goofed! Stop raining emails on me!

The time for the jam is 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Now, if you are a "slow jammer" you can come at 2:00 for a slow jam and then stay for the remainder of the time. The jam usually breaks up into skill levels anyway so even if you can't come at 2 for the slow jam, there should be plenty of opportunity for the newbies to get in some playing time at their level.

See y'all there!

[YEP-DC] SEED is hiring a Data Analyst

As The SEED Foundation replicates its model of college-preparatory, public boarding schools, we seek a self- directed and analytically minded professional to join our team. The Data Analyst will support the Director of Evaluation with all SEED data tracking, performance management, evaluation, assessment and research initiatives and with some financial forecasting. The Data Analyst will assist in building SEED's data framework that will support future development and expansion efforts.  The Data Analyst will report to the Director of Evaluation and work closely with SEED Foundation and SEED School staff in a team-based environment.

The Data Analyst will be expected to coordinate various projects related to marketing, evaluation, and external research, and will play an important role in supporting the collection and analysis of data relevant to supporting existing and future SEED schools.

The full job description can be found on SEED's website at http://www.seedfoundation.com/index.php/get-involved/employment/foundation.

About The SEED Foundation

The SEED Foundation is one of the nation's leading education reform organizations. Founded in 1997, SEED opens and supports public, college-preparatory boarding schools designed specifically for children from the nation's most economically challenged neighborhoods. The organization has been nationally recognized by 60 Minutes, The Oprah Winfrey Show, the documentary film Waiting for "Superman," researchers and education reformers, and the President of the United States, who called SEED "a true success story." With high-performing schools operating in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland, SEED has additional schools under active development in Ohio and Florida, as well as plans to bring public boarding schools to more cities across the country.  The SEED model has proven successful: over 90 percent of SEED graduates have been accepted to a 4-year college or university and have enrolled in college.

Subject: Fwd: Bloomingdale Updated Construction Notice
To:
Cc: Veronica Davis <vdavis@nspiregreen.com>, "Strange, Alfred (DDOT)" <alfred.strange@dc.gov>, "Arno, Reginald (DDOT)" <reginald.arno@dc.gov>

Bloomingdale Community,

During the November community walk through and in subsequent meetings, you indicated that you wanted to be kept abreast of the Bloomingdale Surface Water Management Project. I have attached an updated notice of construction for the Bloomingdale community. Construction was scheduled to start today in the unit block of T St. NW; however the weather will delay the start. The area has been marked off and Emergency No Parking signs are in place.

On Saturday, April 27th, we disseminated the attached construction notices to residents on the unit and 100 blocks of T St. NW and Rhode Island Ave. NW, as well as, in the immediate area surrounding the alley of the church.

Please share this information with your neighbors.

Thank you,

--

[dcab-l] Orrin Star Rhythm Guitar Workshop, May 11th, Takoma Park, MD

I will be offering my Bluegrass Rhythm Guitar Workshop
two Saturdays from now at the House of Musical Traditions
in Takoma Park from Noon-2:15pm.

It's a workshop that I've done around the country for the past
15 years and which many have found beneficial.

Complete info at  http://orrinstar.com/Pages/HMT7.html

Orrin
www.orrinstar.com

"Bluegrass guitarists have developed some of the most potent
and interesting rhythm moves ever heard—but they are seldom
taught in an organized way. This workshop takes a hands-on,
detailed and entertaining look at them. Learn the cool bass runs
and strums and how to apply them. If you strum folk, bluegrass
or country music on an acoustic guitar this workshop is for you."

[dcab-l] Re: Join the Jam Saturday at the Kingman Island Bluegrass Festival

The 3:30 jam was a fun time.  Lots of folks found their way to the beautiful space where we played.  Most folks stayed the entire jam and we even played a couple of encores.  We had eight or nine DCBUers play and Jason did a fine job promoting the organization.
Thanks to everybody who set this up and I hope we get to do this every year.

I'm excited to announce that DCBU will be hosting a free Bluegrass Jam at the Kingman Island Bluegrass festival this Saturday. The jam will begin at 3:30pm at one of Kingman Island's beautiful living classrooms, just a short walk from the stages. In addition, there will be smaller impromptu jams around the island throughout the day. So please bring your instrument and come out to the jam!!
