Participants will engage in a problem-based task to deepen
conceptual understanding of number sense and operations in their
grade band. In addition, they will learn ways to develop students' skills
around mathematical practices from the Common Core State Stan-
dards. Participants will develop a ready to implement problem based-
task and leave with techniques for developing high-level problem-based
tasks in their classroom in the future.
WHEN:
-The elementary grades workshop (prekindergarten–2nd grade) will be held on Thursday July 19, 9:00AM–4:00PM.
-The middle grades workshop (3rd grade–8th grade) will be held on Thursday August 2, 9:00AM–4:00PM.

This workshop will be run by JEFF HEYCK-WILLIAMS, a founder of Two Rivers Public Charter School and one of the school's Instructional Guides. For the past three years, Jeff has taught algebra to middle school students and has led the Two Rivers staff to become more passionate and effective teachers of math. He has led previous workshops on problem-based approaches to mathematics and developing students' affective response to math. In addition, he has presented his work at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Meeting and Exposition. He is one of the authors for the Two Rivers Instructional Guide, a blog about 21st Century Learning.
