[BloomingdaleActionList] Fwd: Action Item! - Help Flagler/Adams with DC Water!

Forwarding this from Flagler Place neighbors. Please excuse duplicate emails.

ACTION ITEM:

Please send the following email (with any edits/additions you choose to make) to:

Subject:  Help Flagler/Adams with DC Water!

-----------------------------

Dear Councilmember McDuffie:

We need your help with DC Water's First Street Tunnel project.  We need information on DC Water's new plans for the Flagler/Adams construction staging area.  DC Water is making major changes to the project that have not been disclosed to residents.  DC Water made a number of errors during its rushed planning, and recently determined that it needs to move a 30-inch water main on Adams before it can begin the First Street Tunnel construction.  Moving a water main of that size is a significant project in its own right.  We have been given no details about this water main project, including where it will take place, how long it will last, or how it will affect the additional 18 months of construction that DC Water is planning in the same location.  DC Water must disclose the changes to its plans as well as its impact on residents.

DC Water has continued to act without even disclosing information to key stakeholders:  homeowners.  DC Water marked the 100 Block of Adams Street NW as a one-way street with no notice to residents.  Additionally, despite multiple requests, DC Water has not disclosed the new truck route for this construction staging area.   We demand that DC Water disclose its new plans for Flagler/Adams, and consult with residents regarding additional mitigation.

DC Water's many changes to the plan again show that Flagler/Adams is not the best, least-impactful location for the drop shaft and diversion chamber.  DC Water's plan was not well thought out.  Storing water from Howard and the Washington Hospital Center in the narrowest street in Bloomingdale continues to make no sense.  Less impactful locations exist (including on DC Water's own property), and must be considered by the city.  We demand that DC Water consider less impactful alternatives, particularly in light of the major changes to the plans.

Thank you for your assistance, and I look forward to your response.
