Position Summary

Scholar Academies is seeking an outstanding Science Teacher to work with our 5th-7th grade scholars. Our Science Teacher will also teach one section of 7th grade math. Our teachers believe all students should be held to high academic standards. They cultivate a strong culture of achievement, and lead classroom communities where students are engaged and self-motivated. This Science Teacher position will be based at DC Scholars PCS in the 2016 - 2017 academic year.

Instruction and Classroom Management

  • Provide excellent science and math instruction, and make every minute count in your classroom by using Scholar Academies' proven systems

  • Provide additional academic support to students after school for at least one hour per week

Family Engagement and Communication

  • Develop strong relationships with family members to support student learning
  • Participate in school-wide family engagement activities including home visits, phone calls to family members, and school-based meetings with families

 

Skills and Characteristics

  • Outstanding instructional and management skills
  • Passion for science, and mastery of this subject area
  • Ability to motivate diverse students and cultivate a strong culture of achievement
  • Demonstrated use of data to inform instructional planning
  • Enthusiasm and openness to continuous feedback and coaching
  • Unshakeable belief that all students should be held to high academic standards
  • Genuine interest in family engagement, and ability to communicate effectively with parents
  • Personal alignment with Scholar Academies' core values
  • Demonstrated commitment to school transformation

Educational Background and Work Experience

  • Experience driving student achievement results, preferably in an urban public or charter school
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
  • Must have or be working towards in-state teacher certification
