"Rose of My Heart" was written by Hugh Moffat, whose songs have been covered by a plethora of country and bluegrass artists. Although many of his live performances appear on “youtube”, I got his original version from a 1989 Rounder/Philo record entitled “Troubadour”.
"Rose of My Heart" was originally introduced into bluegrass around 1994 by the Whitstein Brothers, also on Rounder/Philo. The song title was also used as the album title, and appeared as the first song. In those days, the Whitstein Brothers were hot, and this was their hottest song.
Others who have recorded this song include Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, IIIrd Time Out, and others. I like the Whitstein Brothers version the best. Very mossy!
This version was recorded live at Coolfont in Berkeley Springs, W. Va. Musicians:
Barry Wendell Rhythm Guitar and Harmony
Ed Schaeffer Lead Guitar and Vocals
Greg Nelson Bass
