Music Lovers & Song Writers:
This song, “Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight”, is written by Donovan Cowart and
Rodney Crowell. Crowell played rhythm guitar and sang for three years in Emmylou Harris' "Hot
Band". He evidently wrote this song for the Oak Ridge Boys, who achieved a #1 on “Hot Country
Songs Billboard” in 1979, their second #1 hit. Emmylou recorded the first cover of this song from
her former bandmate, and released it on the album: Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town in 1978.
This cut was of a Honeysuckle live practice, and I’m glad I kept it!
Carole Hausner Lead Vocal & Rhythm Guitar
Ed Schaeffer Harmony Vocals, Lead Guitar, & Bass (thanks John Vengrouskie)
This song has the wonderful lyrics I learned to appreciate in N. Orleans when my sister lived there:
Well down in the swampland, anything goes
Alligator bait and the bars never close
As always, headphones are preferred:
